there's probably some threads already about it but anyway...
You need to be a little more specific then that. If you want a good first person shooter then i'd suggest Call of Duty, or maybe even UT2004. If you want strategy um good luck very few of 'em work cross platform.

Halo is a great game for lan parties, most of mine ended up playing Halo a majority of the time. Call of Duty can be a lot of fun, and there's always WarCraft 3/StarCraft if you get some people who are into that.

Starcraft, Warcraft 3, UT 2004, Call of Duty, and Quake 3 are all excellent cross-platform games. Halo would work as well, but it requires each person on the network to have a unique CD key. It's rare that every single person attending the LAN party will have their own copy of Halo, and it's a very demanding game that doesn't run well except on the best hardware. I'd stick to system linked XBoxes if you want to play Halo.
You'll have to avoid C&C Generals and Age Of Empires, since they both use the Windows-only DirectPlay on the PC side. And of course there are a lot of games that simply aren't available for Mac. The most popular LAN party game that you can't play on the Mac is probably CounterStrike.

I feel your pain. Back when PC users had 640k barriers, DOS mode, lack of standardized networking, and VGA limitations to deal with, Macs were the gaming kings. I bought my first Mac (a 6100) specifically for LAN parties. Unfortunatly now the situation's reversed. I finally gave up on gaming on the Mac, but several of my friends still are, and here's what we play at LAN parties:
Unreal Tournament: Unfortunatly the OS X version is still in beta and not particularly stable. OS9 version runs great.
Unreal Tournament 2004
Quake 3 (there's an OSX version now)
Diablo II (There's an OSX version now)
Myth II (there's an OSX version now)
We tried Halo, but it seems every time they release a patch for either platform it breaks cross-platform networking, and last we tried it, we couldn't get it to work.

My friends and I plan on having some World of Warcraft lan parties over the holidays. It'll be my first lan party as a Mac user (I recently got an iMac).
We're getting a few copies of the Collector's Edition, so that with the included guest accounts should be enough to get everyone on board. Kudos to Blizzard for making every game Mac/PC compatible from the get-go! They're almost the only gaming company that ever gets my money.

Right on CaptainHaddock. WoW would be a blast with a group of amigos.
Warcraft 3 and Starcraft are 2 of my favorites. Starcraft and Warcraft 2BNE are nice because you can install spawns on all but the hosting computer, so you only need a single cd for a LAN party.
There are a lot of shooters that would work - besides those mentioned, Medal of Honor, Red Faction, No One Lives Forever 2, Jedi Knight 2.

At a huge LAN event, the popular FPS seems to dominate. So our last gaming event seemed to consist of UT2K4 and Battlefield : Vietnam.
Although, there's plenty to choose from cross-platform. On a smaller LAN event we had one PC sharing an internet connection. All the PCs hopped on the internet connection to a remote server, I joined using the IP address and some remote friends (unable to make the journey) joined in also.
I was surprised how easily it worked. I thought getting the Mac to see the PC shared 'net connection and then getting through all the hazzards to a server would be a nightmare. It worked first time.
Also, the complete JOY of watching everyone drag in desktops and CRTs and run all the cables and I turned up with the new PB15 and setup in 2 minutes. I'll never forget their faces.
