well-
The early review is that with a G4 TiBook 667 MHz, Warcraft 3 is fine. Being over 30, and not being able to play quite as many hours as many younger people out there, I suspect that I'll never get really really efficient at quickly amassing the kind of giant army that I recall people loved to develop in Starcraft. So a limited army is good. I see why RPG players aren't sure what to make of Warcraft's "heroes". They are an add-in "spice" element that offers a shred of narrative to the RTS base. If you have limited time but want something fun from time to time, and don't have fast enough CPU or fingers for an FPS, the game is great.

Yup, WC3 is perfect for people like us that rarely have time for games.

World of Warcraft is also great for people with little time. The only downside to this is that you'll probably have to skip instances. Even if you have only like 10 min of free time, you could log in to check your mail box, auction house, skilling up profession skills, chatting, returning finished quests to NPCs, collecting materials, etc.
But on the other hand, this game may be a time black hole to some

Yeah, I think WoW is a bit too addictive if you don't have time for it. I can easily "lose" a few hours in the game. My wife goes to bed, I play for a little while, maybe do a quest or two, and BAM, it's 3 hours later.
But ooh, is it ever fun.

I think WoW is really boring for someone who doesn't have oodles of time for it, like myself. I'd say that 90% of MMO games are aimed, price and gameplay-wise, at more avid gamers. It's too bad :/

Lol, I'm glad it is not just me that 'loses' time due to WoW! I honestly think the game has some kind of temporal distortion built in...
I log on for a specific purpose like a mining run, and the next thing I know it is 3 hours later and I am deep in a quest line or instance facing the might of some undead demon or something! (The worst was the felbane weapons quest...)
But as you say, wow it's fun

But what about the fee? The fee wouldn't look so appealing for those who play it less than an hour a day.

Yeah...WoW is not a game for people with little time. I understand what Adam is saying but it's damn near impossible to limit yourself to half an hour or an hour a day and make any headway in the game.
Heck, it sometimes takes 10 minutes to go from one city to another without a mount or flightpath. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes.
Don't get me started on how much time is lost when you die and you have to run back to your corpse while a ghost.
If you only spend an hour a day in this game you'll probably be around level 14 at the end of the month...but then the levels start taking a lot of time.
I don't recommend this game at all if you're short on time. Or you'll be paying 14.99 (or 13.99, or 12.99) a month and gaining maybe 1 or 2 levels in that time span.
This is a big problem for me at the moment since I have very little time for games yet I got sucked into the Open Beta and have been spending more time on WoW than I should have. But it's just so damn fun.

This has really been discussed in great detail on the WoW forum.
It basically boils down to about $0.43 per day to play. For some people it's worth it, for others it's not. I figure I am saving $50 every month because I only play the one game instead of buying lots of others, beating them, and putting them aside.

That's an interesting point of view. I like it.
The wonderful thing about WoW (and other MMORPGs) is that you can't 'finish' it. And WoW has enough content to keep someone busy for years and still then, they'll never have done everything.
8 races, 6 classes, multiple talent builds, Profession combinations. I forgot to check how many combinations between race and class there are but I think there are close to 30. Then out of those 30, the talent tree can gives extra uniqueness to the character.
That right there is enough to keep anyone busy for the next 4 years. But then if that person is locked away from reality during these 4 years, they're not contributing anything to real life so...umm...

To get back to the original topic, as an older than average gamer I'll second that Warcraft 3 is great for an occasional skirmish online or vs. the computer. I especially like the addition of heroes to the rts mix. Just a great, smart game.
To get back to the WoW thread, I got in on the stress tests and the open beta - I love the game, and also noticed that hours seem to disappear when you log on. The cool thing is that none of it is scripted, and if you happen to team up with some cool people, you can end up having a much different experience than if you are soloing. I think it's worth the dough, especially if you can spend a lot of time on it.

I'm starting to think that there's 2 reasons I didn't like WoW when I played.
Reason 1: I didn't play with any of my friends; I essentially treated the game like a single player campaign.
Reason 2: I was getting terrible framerates because I had an older video card, and blizzard had disabled shaders...kind of like watching an exciting movie on a tiny television....probably not so exciting anymore.
So...if the cost isn't prohibitive and some friends of mine are playing, I'll give it another shot I guess.
