is there a resource anywhere that will inform me of the various controls for UT 2004? I have the demo, and for example I can't figure out how to get in and out of vehicles. also, i would love brief explanation of the various types of gameplay and the idea behind each. thanks.

Don't know about the demo, but in the full version there's a PDF version of the manual in the Application's Package. Do a Show Package Contents on the app- one of the folders inside is "Manual". Inside that is a 3.9 MB pdf of the printed manual.

Hopefully that's the case with the demo as well.

Ummm, why not just check the controls in the game. Open up the Options or Controls item in the menu in the game and see what keys are assigned.

By the way, just like Halo, it's "E" to get in and out of vehicles.

go to options and try to customize controls... this will show you all of the controls.

as for game types... I don't remember them all I don't think, but off the top of my head:
deathmatch: kill anything that moves.
team deathmatch: kill anything that moves that isn't wearing your color
capture the flag: run to the enemy base, grab their flag, run back to your base. kill the enemy if they have your flag, are trying to get your flag, are trying to kill the guy with their flag, or do anything else.
???: I think this one has the name "ball" in it, but I'm not sure. You grab the ball and try and fire it into your opponents goal. there's only one ball... if they have it, kill the ball carrier and take the ball. you can also pass the ball or intercept a flying ball.
onslaught: you start with one node... you can then capture any node that is connected to that node. this should show up in your map, or you can just follow the computer bots around until you know your way. if the enemy controls the adjacent node, you can take it by wearing down it's shields and destroying it. work your way towards their starting node, and blast the hell out of it. You can't skip nodes.
?assault?: don't remember the name of this one... there are two teams, one defends, the other attacks... the attackers have to reach the end of the map and the defenders have to keep them from doing it. They'll have to hit lots of little goals along the way (switches to lower doors, levers to extend bridges... buttons to do things... blow crap up... whatever). After they make it or time expires, the teams switch roles. Whoever does better wins.

and the next question is, how do you get down, right?

Press C to go down...

The controls are similar to the movement space - up or jump - and C - down or crouch.

well, i had actually figured out how to descend by accident. i had tried to use the spacebar to ascend, and it shot out a little puff of air and my ship "jumped" a bit in the air, but not enough to sustain my altitude. in fact, if i remember right, i actually had to wait a few seconds betwen hitting the jump button to build up energy or something. i might have missed something, and will go back tonight to see if hitting spacebar does the trick. thanks for your help though and for not treating me like an idiot. i haven't played unreal since UT first hit the scene some four years ago. i don't think i like it nearly as much. unreal and unreal tournament were much more menacing in their atmosphere. the colors of UT 2004 are some how "bright" and the gameplay is ultra "twitchy". and guys are just jumping all over the place like coked-out bunnies. it is a bit of an adjustment.

thanks though!

mamaia, it sounds like you were driving a Manta, the little hovercraft. It can jump but not fly. Only the Raptor can fly.
