...the quickest way to get an answer to a question like this is to check the developer's website for system requirements.

Chances are it'll play slow, yeah. My TiBook 12" 1 GHz choked on it something fierce. But, to each their own.

It depends what you define as "acceptably well". I find it to run perfectly acceptably on my 933MHz iBook G4 (with 640MB RAM), with several settings adjusted to my liking, but others may not find this suitable.

No, it'll suck. Maybe if "acceptably well" means a maximum framerate of 20fps at 640x480 with muddy looking textures on everything... but you really need a high-end Mac to run Halo well enough.
A friend of mine has a terrible old Compaq with integrated video and no AGP slot, and it runs World Of Warcraft at about 3 fps when his character is outside. When he goes into a building it jumps to about 15 fps. He loves the game so much that he doesn't care that it looks like total ass, so I guess that falls under the definition of "acceptable" for him. For most people, it doesn't.

Yeah, 2k4 ought to run well enough on your setup. It's not nearly as demanding as Halo because it doesn't use pixel shaders. The iBook's hardware can't even do pixel shaders, you have to settle for vertex shaders (or no shaders at all) which makes it look really bad.

It will run it fine, although it's going to look pretty crappy. The 32mb of video ram is what's going to kill you, just keep the texture sizes down and resolution low. It will be playable though once you play with it a bit to get what runs the best.

Whoa, wait a minute, I'm seeing a lot of misinformation being posted here. It runs just fine (1024x768, 30fps steady). It doesn't look nearly as good as it does on the Xbox or a high-end Mac because it'll be using the most basic rendering codepath. Water doesn't glisten, no lense flares, ground textures are simplistic and patterned, the shield impact effect is not translucent, and plasma explosions are blotchy; but you don't need eye candy for playability, and the frame rate and resolution are quite fine. And I wouldn't say it looks "really bad" either. It looks better than, say, Quake. Doesn't look as good as it could, but still looks quite pretty. Go ahead and buy Halo, you won't be dissapointed.
Somebody posted that Halo won't run as well as UT2k4 because it uses Pixel shaders and his iBook doesn't have this. This is wrong on three counts; first of all, the Radeon 9200 does have pixelshaders, they're just a more basic version (1.4) than the 9500+ and GeForceFX (2.0). Secondly, Halo does not necessarily use Pixel Shaders; it has a couple more high-end codepaths that will take advantage of them if present, but the basic Halo rendering codepath doesn't use them at all, and will run fine on a Radeon 7500. Third, UT 2k4's system requirements are actually higher than Halo (933Mhz vs 800Mhz, same video requirements), and UT2k4 is going to be more prone to lag in very large netgames.

There is no demo because MacSoft wants people to pirate the game so they can complain about it.
There is a demo of UT2004 so I'd suggest trying that out at least.

I thought it was running fine on my 12" G4 1GHz, but in some of the later levels, or large open areas, it chokes on the framerate. I suggest using a desktop with a better video card if you really want the eye candy on. Otherwise turn down all the graphics and it may be suitable for you.
Most game forum people will disagree and say it looks like a** when you do this and is unacceptable. Its all up to your taste and desire to play the game.
