So which is the best Sim City? The original? 2000? 3000? 4? I've played all but 3000, and have loved them all. Which has a special place in your heart?

Despite the horrible Mac port, I loved 3000.

I've played all the way to 3000, but I really liked the Original.

I played that on a CGA, XT with 640KB RAM. And the game booted off a 5 1/4 floppy.

ah...memories...

I agree, 2000. SimCity 4 looks really cool, but either I am just not compatible with the GUI or it got too complex. Bad performance was also a low mark for it. I never played the original until after playing 2000, so it didn't do anything for me I have SimCity 3000 sitting on my shelf for about 4 months now, maybe I'll give that a try after all.

The original for sure. After all, it was the concept that really drove the game ("MY city, MY inhabitants!") and not the overly complicated eye candy and functionality...

I would have to say 2000. I mean it has a lot more complexities then the original, without overdoing it. SimCity 4 require way too much processing power and can be overly complex, even for us advanced users. Though being able to drive around your city with the Rush Hour Expansion is kinda cool.

The amount of time I've played Sim City and 2000 is measured in years not days. I can't believe the amount of time my friends and I spent playing those games. They're both great in their own right, but I've never tried any of the newer ones.

I'd have to say the original and 2000 are both pretty even.

I've not played 3000 or higher.

3000 was great on my G3 imac. I still have it, but it requires Classic to run and I point blank refuse to ever see OS9 ever again.

I have SimCity4 now which runs really nice on my new iMac G5 2.0ghz, looks awesome, requires (as far as I can remember) management of far more aspects of the city, but it is just TOO DAMNED HARD!

I had a city called Tinseltown in 3000 which was great. It was huge and thriving, and I ran it for well over a year. I can barely get a population of more than 1000 in SimCity4 before going completely bust.

SimCity 4 gets a bit choppy on my 1.33 G4 Powerbook when a city gets to be about 100,000 people or so. Other then that I find it to be very challenging, in a good way. After a while SimCity 2000 was just too easy.

2K

3 & 4 tried to just "up" it all, sure the graphics were better (didn't dig the cartoony feel of 3 though) but little else was added to the game that helped. Some good additons came from these versions of course, I liked the added garbage/land fill stuff but the magic mix was not there anymore.

3K suffered for a lousy port and 4K from a lousy design all around.

2000, the original was good, but 2000 just made a better game without being bloatware (3 & 4). 2000 is the sweet spot.

4 is the best hands-down, if you install the expansion. It fixes all of the issues I had with the game and adds a ton of things to make your life easier.

It's sad to see how poorly it performs on modern Macs, when my friends 4 year old midrange (at the time) PC handles it quit well.

I still play 2000 in OS X through Classic. The color palate makes every other app look like crap, but 2000 looks and plays flawlessly.

I'm torn. I play the original on my Palm. I love its simplicity. The ecologies were cool in 2000, but spend too much time on my machine at home playing 3000. Gee, do I have to pick just one?
