I was a big fan of zork a long time ago. I was wondering if there were any new games like this for OS X. Non-real time (i.e. not shoot-em-up) adventure (clues, mazes, etc) type games. I believe Myst is similar, but runs in classic. The new Myst is OS X, would I miss a lot if I skipped to that?
Any others?
Thanks,
Scott

You can get "Real Myst" which is the first game, but 3d instead of just a bunch of prerendered images.

You would lose alot of the backstory by beginning at the latest Myst. I'd start from the beginning to understand what is going on in the story.

Myst: Very good (and so too RealMyst I'd assume)
Riven: Very Good. Classic only (Right?)
Myst III: Tepid. Honestly, very good in it's own right, but compared to the other Myst games, tepid. Puzzles too easy. Story line dull. Worthwhile? Yah, it is.
Myst IV: Very Good (except for a few parts). Challenging. Great story.
Those are the Myst games imho.
Only other adventure type game I've played (recently) is Omega Stone 2. It is... okay. If you like this type of game, OS:2 has a lot to offer. My complaints:
1) Puzzles made more difficult by the graphics. Only on two puzzles (that I can remember) the clues for the puzzle were presented in such a way that it made the puzzle way more challenging that it should have been. It had a moment in it that was like reading the eye chart at the doctors office: You knew most of it, but you had to guess your way through the rest because you just couldn't quite make it out...
2) Crash-o-riffic bug that only manifested itself 3/4 of the way through the game. Easy fix, but pissed me right off.
Still, enjoyable, but I wouldn't spend more than 20 bucks for it.
Rhem: Haven't played it. Wanted to play it, just never got around to it.
Rhem 2 is coming out soonish I thought.
Alida: No interest. The picture on the box looks like a big guitar. How silly is that? What, is it an adventure to get big hair and tight leather pants? Feh.

Thanks everyone. I checked out the links provided.
Omega Stone (OS X) is a sequel to Riddle of the Sphinx (not OS X). Would I miss anything by skipping the first one?
Alida looks interesting. At first I didn't care for the music theme, not much of a music fan myself, but after reading through the review that Jerry posted it really sounds interesting.
Rhem and Rhem 2 both sound interesting as well. Although OS X native support for Rhem isn't clear. The Rhem website shows "MacOSX Classic or MacOSX native" but the site to purchase only mentions Classic.

I started with ROTS2:TOS, I didn't play Riddle of the Shinx, and I didn't feel as if I missed anything. The storyline is not as involved as Myst's.
Speaking of Myst, I don't think you'd be missing much story if played RealMyst and Myst IV. They are kind of bookends, meaning IV pretty much finishes up the story started in Myst.
I think there is an OS X patch OS X patch for Rhem to make it run native. You can download the game for around $25 (or whatever 14.95 pounds is) from VP's website

Just hit the Crash-o-riffic bug you mentioned. What did you do as a fix?

My email to Dreamcatcher Software:
CD #3, the SS compound. At any point after getting to the top of the tower, if I try to save the game, it crashes to desktop. If I do not save, at the point I leave the SS compound and return to Brathwaite Manor and am prompted to insert CD #2, the game crashes to desktop. Any inventory added after leaving top of tower/entering cemetary is invisible in my inventory menu (the cross key from the cemetary, the sword from tower basement). Cemetary key is still usable, just invisible. Up until this point, the game has been stable. Was stable for the initial run through CD #2, the initial run through CD #3. Left SS compound and returned to Brathwait manor (CD #3 to CD #2) fine. returned to SS compound went up tower and saved prior to going up tower, fine. Any save or CD swapping after this point results in a crash. And the bit about the acquired inventory items (cross key and sword) being invisible. No crash log generated, no error message.
----end----
Dreamcatcher Software's Response:
There is a small glitch in The Omega Stone that surfaces every now and then. It is related to the in-game screenshots that are taken with the camera. It leads to crashing and inventory issues. To correct it, you will have to remove all or some of the screenshots that you've taken in the game. They are stored as JPG images on your hard disk so if you wish you can back them up for later reference.
Once you delete them the game will function correctly.
It solved the problem for me, but was a royal pain in the ass figuring out which pictures I no longer needed and which ones I had to keep. Hope this helps!
