Cave Story is a relatively-recent freeware game, the likes of which we haven't seen since the glory days of the NES. It is a side-scroller, reminiscent of Castlevania, Blaster Master, Megaman, and Metroid. I just downloaded this game a few days ago, and I haven't been able to stop playing it. To put it bluntly, this game rules, and just goes to show that a game doesn't need to be processor-intensive to be amazing.

Definitely try it out.

Man, from a forum full of people who loved their old NES's, I can't believe I've only had one response to this thread. This game is awesome! Seriously, everyone needs to download it and try it out right now!

I believe you can hit <TAB> to make it full screen.

My PSP is my new retro gaming platform of choice, but I'll have to check out this app when I get home tonight.

Ahh, I'll try the TAB thing tonight. Thanks! As for why no one's checking it out...no clue...I'll post a link to a fan page I found that also has a link to an easier translation patch for mac:

has anyone finished this game? The end is extremely hard, I can get up to destroying the core but only manage to kill sue before dying. four bosses in a row is insane!

I finished that part of the game...

If you do the right things while you are playing, there is another entire area and set of bosses after that which is ten times harder.

Good luck.

I've gotten two endings so far...haven't played the 'Hell' stage yet. This game has serious replay value...once you play it again you realize all the things you could have done differently..wow. I'd have to say this is 'a' (not 'the') perfect game!
