I'm playing Myst V, and enjoying it overall, but I'm a little annoyed by some of the bugs I've encountered. I'm wondering if it's just me, or if others are seeing problems as well.
Here are the problems I've seen so far, in no particular order:
- If the screen saver activates, the computer locks up. Sound from the game continues, but the picture freezes and it's necessary to hard reboot the computer.
- The game doesn't black out my secondary monitor. This is pretty routine for games, but still annoying.
- The game slows down after extended play. I've noticed that if I finish one age and then go through to the next (with the two in-between ages thrown in as well) the framerates drop and the game becomes almost unplayable. Quitting and and starting the game back up seems to fix the problem.
- Puzzles don't reset reliably with saved games. I accidentally finished Todelmer after about 30 seconds. When I loaded a saved game to start over, none of the puzzles would work - I ultimately had to start the entire game over from the start.
As I said, overall I love the game. It's beautiful and challenging. But the bugs are annoying.

You'll have to post more information to get any useful info. Here's what you'll need (minimum):
Computer type/processor speed (i.e. Dual G5 2.0 GHz), how much RAM, what graphics card.

Ok: Single G5 1.8 GHz, 1G ram, ATI 9600 for the primary and ATI 128 for the secondary.
Since posting I've seen lots of other posts in other forums about Myst V. Apparently dual monitors aren't supported, and lock ups are common. I haven't seen any other reports of the puzzle problem I had.

There are many issues with Myst V and ATi cards unfortunately, and I'm not sure if any of them have been patched. Ubi's forums are a somewhat decent source of information. The user base usually can figure out fixes to problems that Ubi tends to ignore.

I contacted Ubi, and they suggested turning off anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering; they also asserted there are problems with ATi cards but blame the drivers. My thought on reading that was "well, Halo seems to be able to do those things without locking up."
I turned off those options, and the game is more stable and frame rates are slightly faster. However, it still locks up after playing for a while.
I'll have to check out the Ubi forums, see if anyone there has seen the same problems with puzzles and saved games.

eyadams,
You might try reading through this thread over on the Myst forums. The lockup you describe does seem to be related to anti-aliasing and anistropic filtering. The best fix seems to be turning off those settings in the game itself, then using the ATI Displays control panel to activate the settings. I've been able to play Myst-V all the way through without a problem like this.

I just found out yesterday that Myst V is out. CompUSA was advertising the Mac version for only $29.95, so I bought it.

Buckaroo,
Can I assume that was a bare-bones package? No game guide? Not the "collector's edition" they made Mac users shell-out extra bucks for originally?
