So far it's exclusive to Xbox.

Newsflash: Never going to happen. Ever.

The only reason Halo 1 came out for any computer system was because it was part of Bungie's contract with MS.

There's a possibility, but it's very small. If you want to play halo2 pick up an xbox and a copy of halo2. Since the 360 came out, I'm sure you can get a used xbox and halo2 (which was only 19.99 new last time I checked) for like $100 - and it will play well.

I just very recently found out halo came out for mac. When/why/how did that happen? lol.

There was a halo custom edition mod made for the pc version open source style, does anyone know if something like that was made for mac? The halo custom edition enhanced multiplayer online gaming, and i believe i remember reading that they were modding that to try to get the halo 2 feel (mult. weapons and whatnot). I haven't been around the halo websites in months so i've fallen away from all the news.

Any thoughts?

Ok, I'm going to say it:

Halo is highly overrated.

It's a purely average FPS. Nothing remarkable about it. It may have been the best FPS on Xbox, but that's simply not saying much.

There, I said it.

it may be a bit overrated but you cant deny its a great game. At the time it was probably the best FPS on any platform. Its one of the few things microsoft got right. I did see a video of it being made in the early stages of its development and at least some of it was done on a mac.

Except Microsoft didn't do this game. BUNGIE did this game. BUNGIE was developing this game for the Macintosh YEARS (ca 2000) ago. M$ bought them, screwed everything higher than up, forced it to the XBox platform, delayed release, etc. Rinse, lather, repeat,

M$ does not develop. They acquire.

Halo is essentially Marathon for dummies, IMNSHO. They replaced the flamethrower with that needle gun and added a sniper rifle, otherwise the weapons are exactly the same. Oh, and there are now two different grenades, and there is both a plasma rifle and a plasma pistol - big deal. Most of the weapons are so similar that it's almost absurd. Both games also feature a "female" AI that helps you and another AI that has an ulterior motive, helping the opposition. They simplified the alien relationships and motivations a bit so the console players would understand it and added some prettier graphics. The mechanics are very similar otherwise. Don't get me wrong, Halo was OK. It wasn't Marathon, but it was OK. I'm just not going to hold my breath waiting for Halo 2. Call of Duty is much better, if you're looking for a shooter.

Actually, I will deny that it's a "great" game. I'll say it's a good game, but it has absolutely nothing that distinguishes it as "great" in my book. It's a lot of fun when you cram four people on the screen, but the gameplay dynamic is nothing compared to, say, CounterStrike.

Now, maybe it's unfair of me to compare Halo to CS, which is the most successful online FPS ever, but that's exactly my point: No console FPS ever comes close to the PC experiences. I suspect that the main reason that is true is because of the limitations in console controllers vs. the good ole fashion mouse control of a PC/Mac.

what limitations the console controlls on the xbox are almost perfect for halo

IIRC correctly, Halo 2 is running on the Havoc physics engine which pretty much means no Mac version until the licensing fee drops.

IF (big IF) it is ever released, I suspect it will be after Halo3 comes out.
Right now if you want Halo2 you buy Xbox or xBox360, later when it's no longer the new hotness, who knows.

*bzzzzzt* No freekin' way. I can name a few that I would rather play with a group of pals.

Quake 1:
There is a special charm about this game (no... not the "short-buss" kind of special.) Quake 1 had great game play and for what it was, it really really used great environment ambience.
Granted, halo has better graphics, but as I become a more avid gamer, I find that game-play rules over graphics... Don't believe me? As all the Marathon players out there.
If you didn't know, you can buy really cheep versions of Quake 1 and two (I'm pretty sure for either mac or PC as the files for the game are all that are needed) and use the new OS X updates for the games to play them! P.S. You can't really pirate these games anymore as the source code has been released for free by ID(Well, I know the source is free anyway).

Tribes 1 or 2:
These games wrap Halo up into a little ball and spit it out. The graphics are nearly the same (rich-bright colors, some dirt effects... you know.) However, both tribes games offer more game-play in that the emphasis is on working together vs. individual. Any bloke can capture a flag, but it is a lot harder/more fun if you have to work together for a common goal. The different player-types makes both tribes 1 and 2, hands down, way more fun than Halo. Also, the vehicles in Tribes are soooo sweet
However, Halo is nice in that it works on a Mac.

It could be good news. Microsoft porting it to the PC brings it one step closer to the Mac. Maybe Macsoft will port it over. So far Macsoft hasn't commented according to http://www.macworld.com/news/2006/02/10/halo2/index.php

So there... but hey, PS3 is coming...

Halo and Halo 2: definitely the most overrated games ever. Yes, I've played both. Yet I can't understand what all the hype is about. Been there, done that (Marathon series). Somebody's (actually lots of somebodies) been drinkin' the Microsoft kool-aid...

Knowing there will never be a Mac port of Halo 2 gives me no grief whatsoever.

Just keep the UT series coming and I'll be satisfied.

EXACTLY!
I think the reason that Halo has received so much attention is that it is the first FPS for the masses. Before, FPS' were for the gamer-elite, now, people have been confused into thinking that the console FPS experience is better than the computer one! I would bet the contents of my pocket that I could beat anyone on a console, just as long as I got to use my keyboard and mouse...

Please, don't kid yourselves... Halo is mostly played by consoliansā„¢...Granted, there are a ton of compy players. My point is, hype for the masses(Microsoft) + ok game = WOW! Halo Rocks!

Or H+m(MS)=$$$

Yes, I'd have to agree that UT2004 is way better than Halo - especially Onslaught. But there seems to be something that unconsciously draws me to Halo, maybe it's the teamwork or the vehicles, maybe it's the community - maybe it's the hilarious red vs blue thing. The vehicles seem more realistic in Halo though, nothing like doing a 180 right at the base or sliding into base with a Warthog.

The single player of Halo has some great background scenes and then some scenes that just got overused and the Flood wasn't all that interesting.
