Well, I'm frustrated. When I was younger I used to play a game on my friend's old Mac. It was a black and white machine OS, but I haven't the slightest what version it was, so that's no help. I DO know that I played it in the late 80s, so that narrows it down some.

This is going to be vague, so I apologize in advance. The game was a turn-based adventure game of sorts. It felt like it had RPG elements, but it wasn't a fantasy (there were guns and other weapons that were definitely not fantasy-like) so many people I talk to dislike calling it an RPG (I disagree, but that's beyond the scope of this foray). It had an almost isometric view, although it was completely in 2D (the game made an attempt to be isometric, anyway). I also remember having a group of characters to use and being able to control them individually. I believe they may have had movement points or some other such utility to determine how much they could do each turn. Hell, it may not have been turn-based, but I'm pretty sure it was.

There are a lot of things I remember being able to do in the game, but I'm worried I'm "glorifying" it. I remember being able to interact with items that were around and you could pick up other weapons as you went along. In retrospect, it could almost be considered a very early version of Jagged Alliance (God I wish they would come out with a new version of that game). Although there was no drawn grid, the game was played as if there was a square grid, ie. there was definite movement from one square to the next, but I don't remember being able to see said grid.

Okay, so that's it. I know, it's not much to work with, but I'm out of ideas. If anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. And as I said earlier, I may be incorrect with some of the features, so any suggestions about what game it could be would be helpful. It's better than searching through every single old Mac game. Thanks in advance.

Sounds almost like Avernum or one of those games from Spiderweb Software. Might want to look them up -- you'll probably find it there.

Hmmm, come to think of it, there's a chance it may have been Fallout.

Nah...Fallout was a game of the 90s...not 80s. Plus the game was compared to Jagged Alliances, there's no way it could have been Fallout with it's beautiful XVGA graphics. And there's no chance it would play on a B&W Mac.

*I'm* tempted to say Syndicate...but that's also a game of the 90s and wasn't really RPG-like and wasn't exactly turn-based...and I'm not sure the game would play on a B&W Mac.

I think it sounds a bit like one of those Moria or Rogue knockoffs in graphics, but I can't specify more. This site has a bunch of old games listed - you could take a look and see if you find it.
