I'm still playing UT Tournament, and still loving it. I'm not a fanatical player, and often simply play with a friend over the internet once or twice a week. Although my machine can handle much more demanding games (Powermac G5, dual 2.5gHz, 2G RAM with 256MB VRAM) my UT buddy has a much humbler machine (a grooooovy Flower power iMac...), hence my choice to stay with UT 1999.

OK, that's the preamble. Here's the real question, and the one where I'd prefer everyone keep their snickering to themselves because it may really come across as a "duh" question: How the heck to I install a new map for play on UT (I mean the 1999 UT, not UT 2003 or 2004), and more specifically, are there any particular special instructions for doing this on my Mac. I'm playing the OS X port of UT, which is perfectly stable on my machine, if that makes a difference, but I still have a copy of the classic files in a safe folder, just in case.

I have seen the maps on the UT CD, but obviously any new maps don't go there... I've looked in every folder inside the UT folder on my drive and can't (or haven't yet) found one called "Maps". So I created a new folder in the root level of my UT folder called "Maps" and put 2 new maps in there hoping they might work. Nope... either I did something wrong, or didn't look at all the game creation options because I didn't see the new maps.

After over a year of playing the standard UT maps, we're bored and desperately want to play some of the amazing new maps I've seen here.

Thanks!
Jacques

I checked my UT folder, and although I don't play UT anymore, there is a Maps folder in there with all the original maps and all the additional extra maps. Not sure if there are different install options? Is there a full vs partial install?

Thanks Leonard. I posted on Inside Mac Games and found an answer there within an hour. It turns out I didn't have a full install, so most of the game's source files remained on the CD and thus I never had a "maps" folder to install third=party files into. I reinstalled UT and everything is fine now, playing with new maps and life's groovy.

Thanks,
J

Yeah IMG is a great resource for games. I'm glad you got your answer, even if it wasn't from me first.
