Is it possible to just buy this game and join and start playin, or do I need to join a group because you can't get anywhere without a group?

You can buy the game and start playing. It's kind of silly to do in a MMORPG, but you can pretty much solo to 60.

It's no big deal really. You can pretty much play the majority of your time pre 60 soloing.

As for groups, every major city has whats called a LookingForGroup chat channel in which groups or players can communicate their needs.

Just go ahead and get it and start playing. You'll have a blast.

Agreed. You can easily make it to level 60 without ever grouping with anyone or joining a guild. However, after you hit 60 it's a different story... but I figure that's the point of playing a fantasy MMO, to meet people and group up for dungeons.

I just boght this about 3 weeks ago, for my new intel imac - this game is incredible. I am at about level 13 - on my own - a couple of times I have joined a group with 1-3 people to go loot together - its REALLY fun, and REALLY addicting. I dont know anyone else playing and I am lovin it - WELL worth the money- Blizzard rocks.

A HUGE time sink....

I found that I gained XP much faster when soloing. I did however join groups for those quests and dungeons that needed it. At 60, it's all about groups, and I have come to enjoy the social aspect very much. Sigh, WoW is down for me :'(, so is the website. Damn you 1.10!!!! (really, really want to see it)

Most servers (realms) that have been running for a few months will have a well developed community and a number of well established guilds on them with decent people you'd enjoy playing alongside.

Look around you as you level up in the game, you will often find yourself grouping with others who have the same quests as yourself, note the guilds of those who seem like the kind of people you'd like to group up with more often, ask them what they think of their guilds. This can sometimes in itself result in an invitation to join if the guild is fairly young and the other party has been simmilarly impressed by your performance.

Guilds looking for new members will often advertise on the WoW realm forums which you can find via the WoW website for your region, and some even advertise in the busy city areas.

If you're worried about not finding anyone to group with, then joining a guild should be high on your agenda. Join one that has members simmilar to your level. Don't go trying to join a guild made up of all level 60s in the hopes that they'll power level you through level 18 instances. Even if you were to get in, they'll all be too busy raiding endgame instances to be able to group with you and when they do "help" you through instances you will not be learning to play your class in doing so.
