So I'm running Tiger, and decided hey, why not play that really old Blizzard game Diablo II? So I install it and start to play, and notice this unbearable lag. It is not related to the internet connection at all and I believe it is because of Classic 9. Has anyone else experienced such a problem? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks.

Uninstall it. Use the native installer to install under OSX http://ftp.blizzard.com/pub/diablo2/..._Installer.dmg
If you are still having that issue, change the video option from OpenGL to Software. I had to do that.
If you are not using the expansion, I'm always down when I'm on b.net.

I am using the expansion. Darn, I left my CD's at home. If I uninstall, and use the native installer, will that help the game pick up the pace? I am running on the lowest settings possible and it is STILL slow. Feels like I'm playing on modem. Ouch.
Thanks for the heads up Rumor. I will have to get the install disks once I'm back at home. Hope it doesnt lag!
BTW, I'm guessing the game isn't lagging because I'm running off Classic 9, but because I did not use the native installer?

The native installer if for those (like me) who do not have Classic or do not wish to use it. Try changing the video settings. When you click the Diablo icon, hold down option and the video config will come up. See if changing from OpenGL to Software does the trick.

Thanks for the quick replies Rumor! This is driving me nuts. I can't stand lag at all. I will try changing the video settings to software.

Hmm, holding down option does not seem to work. I guess it because I am running on classic. Darn.

BTW, by holding down option simply causes the application that I am "option + clicking" to hide. Thats about it.

It works for me. Try checking out the help section at the Blizzard website in regards to changing your video options.

I haven't tested this myself but you should be able to download the OS X patch here and it should patch the game for OS X without having to reinstall the whole thing.

I guess I will just have to reinstall it once I get my install disks from home. No big deal. I have to admit though, it is kind of fun!
Thanks for the help guys.

Oh yea, could anyone help me figure out why holding down option will not get me into the video mode? Is it because I'm running in Classic 9?

Hmm did not work either. Thanks for the help though Rumor! Once I get home this weekend, I'll be able to reinstall with the Mac installer. Thanks again.
