A couple of weeks ago, my girlfriend, who had been playing "The Sims - Makin' Magic" with about a zillion downloads added to the game and never a single problem, removed the game because she felt it had gotten too slow and bloated with all the downloaded stuff she'd put into it; she felt it would run better if she reinstalled it and then cut down the number of downloaded items added to the game - but when she reinstalled everything, there was a problem with the "Create a Sim" area of the game, where character skins are chosen. Characters look all distorted and deformed, and as a character move, there's a trail created in the wake of the character's movement. This has never happened before.

Can anyone out there tell me why this is happening, and how we can correct the problem? We have a swivel-neck iMac running the latest version of OS X with plenty of RAM. Thanks in advance.

Did you reapply all the latest patches?

Patches? From where? The Aspyr web site? Or from Apple? I suspect it might have something to do with some sort of conflict between one of my girlfriend's "Sims" game discs - the problem only occurs after she's installed the "Vacation" expansion pack - and a recent OS X update, but I don't know that for sure at this point.

Yes from Aspyr. Also, you need to install the expansions in a specific order (the order by which they were released, there should be info about this inside the manual for every expansion).

There are patches for all the expansions also: see: http://www.versiontracker.com/php/se...mp;x=0&y=0

you could repair permissions after all this also.

I just did some Googling and found your post.

After not playing it for over a year, tonight I decided to install the Sims on my PBG4 running 10.4.4. After installing Vacation, I got the exact same problem you did with the skins messing up. I trashed the prefs with no luck, then I just trashed the entire Sims folder and totally reinstalled with the same results. I also tried installing the patches from the Aspyr web site after I installed each expansion pack, even though I didn't really think it was necessary. Nothing worked; I'm still having the same problem.

Needless to say, this is really obnoxious. Did you ever figure out what the problem was or how to fix it?
