It's just you. They always said they would be for sale for a fee. There might be some free games like download metriod NES when you buy metroid prime 3 though.

I think they said access to the service would be free (as opposed to fee-based like Xbox Live), but the games have always been meant to be sold.

That might be it. I remember seeing screen caps of a keynote that nintendo was giving. I wonder how many of those games they'll sell at a premium price like that. . .

At a time there was rumors going around that if you traded in your cart you would get the downloadable classic for free. Must have been bull because you can buy most classics on ebay for $3.

I was asking about that not more than 2 pages ago. I could see it being true, though, cause the cost and hassle of shipping would be worse than the cost of just downloading it.

Yeah thats EXACTLY what i'm claiming. Nintendo even invented plastic moulding and integrated circuits, along with TV. Of course...the list of "inventions" from Microsoft and Sony in relation to gaming is absolutely staggering and puts Nintendo to shame.

From the same article cited above....

"On the flipside, there are definitely hands-on articles praising the Wii controller. Gamespy's own preview of Marvel: Ultimate Alliance states that, "the game handles better than expected on the Wii hardware," citing excellent camera controls. This, however, isn't a 1st Person title.

I'd be a fool to question Nintendo's ability to make their 1st Party titles on the Wii anything less than stellar. The real question for me is whether 3rd Party devs will spend adequate time refining the controls and even if they do, whether near pin-point accuracy is even possible."

Nope. But given the numbr of successes theyve pioneered in console interfaces, i think they deserve the benefit of the doubt..... more than Microsoft or Sony who have hardly made any contributions in that area.

Well now people are huffy that a system that encourages group/family play is only supporting 2 players for some games. In this day and age it is a bit odd. Hope it has nothing to do with not having enough horsepower.

OK, back on track now, you can do it!!

Xbox 360 adds 1080p, HD DVD drive is $170 US for November 17th in Japan

The 360 will get an update to allow DVD's and games to upscale their resolution to 1080p from 1080i. 1080p was one of the PS3's big features. OK, so upscaling isn't quite the same as true resolution, but its going to be better than 1080i, and it does take away one of the PS3's formerly unique features.

Also, the HD DVD drive will be released in Japan first, for $170 or $180, depending who you talk to, according to the article.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

i is interlaced, p is progressive. 1080i creates the image in two passes, one for odd lines, one for even lines, 1080p scans all lines of the image together.

It'll be much easier if you just comply.

Holy crap. We can thus hope for a CAD$199 HD-DVD drive come Xmas, with full 1080p support. I might just have to buy one. At $299 I wouldn't have bought, but at $199 it's a lot easier to justify the cost.

I'm also happy I won't have to buy a new video switcher. I'm already out of inputs on my TV and component video switcher. (My TV doesn't support HDMI anyway, so that's a moot point.)

Wow, that is nuts that Xbox added 1080p support for just games! It might not be much in use now but 2 years from now it will be more common. Nice to see that hardware that came out a year ago can be software upgraded to support formats in the future.

Shane Kim Talks 360 1080p Game Output - Kotaku

Apparently games can be made in 1080p but 720p will remain the norm for now. Upscaling for old games is sweet also.

It doesn't say it's just for games. I'd expect HD-DVD to be 1080p output too, although it doesn't specifically mention that.

Imagine if you are trying to kick a long field goal in Wii Madden and you violently sneeze. The bad news is that you missed the field goal and even worse you decapitated someone in the crowd.
I can't tell if this is supposed to be a joke or not.

So now for $500 you get a blu-ray drive PLUS a game/multimedia machine.

Or you can get an HD-DVD player for $500.

The PS3 might be worth it just for this game.

IGN: TGS 2006: Interview with the Dragon

They mention how blueray is important as just the first level is 4 gigs partly because of high quality textures. The PS3's horsepower isn't just for graphics but for AI.

It looks like Sony is going to be bleedin' a sheetload of $ this year.

In other news, Wii will not play back DVD movies.

"Nintendo of America's vice president of marketing and corporate affairs, Perrin Kaplan, confirmed to IGN Wii today that its forthcoming Wii console will not play Hollywood DVD movies."

Wtf?

That's not going to help them capture the elderly women market...

"We want to appeal to mothers who don't want consoles in their living rooms, and to the elderly and to young women,'' President Satoru Iwata said in a Sept. 14 interview. "It's a challenge, like trying to sell cosmetics to men."

In all honesty, the amount of people who would find DVD playback useful on the Wii has to be about as low as the amount that need HD content. Probably less, actually.

Why would they? If the rumors are correct, they have more pre-orders than they will be able to handle at launch.

It's unlikely to be a technical issue. It's probably a licencing and implementation cost issue. ie. They could very easily have done it if they wanted to, but didn't because they could shave some bucks off the units.

It looks like that despite their hype about it, they're really going ghetto with this machine.

Doing something with Wii Points = DVD player would be fine by me. I can't see myself neeeding a DVD player out of the box, but I'd be willing to pay $10 extra for one if I found myself needing to play a few DVD's.

Yeah, the DVD playing is really annoying me.

Agreed. They jacked up the price and put it at the highest price possible according to analysts beforehand, didn't use any hardware worth anything, charge too much for old games, make it not play DVDs, charge $40-60 for an "extra" paddle, charge $50-60 for games, and basically just blew it (for me at least). I was planning on pre-ordering the dang thing until their pricing announcement a month or so ago. This just seals the deal.... no Wii for me for at least another year. Stupi Stupid Nintendo. They had such a good thing going with the Wii until they announced that it couldn't do anything and would cost almost as much as the XBox360.
