There were a few articles about piracy on Macs in the past couple weeks and it got me thinking about osx86project.com. Is it possible that piracy on Mac is rising because that underground group of pirates now have access to OS X? Actually...I shouldn't even have formulated that into a question. There's no doubt in my mind that piracy on Mac has increased because of those ****ers (not all of them are pirates but I'd say 90% are.)
Everytime I drop by to see what they're up to, I see that they've downloaded the latest pro apps from Apple such as Final Cut Pro or Aperture or the latest cracked games such as Doom 3 or Quake 4, etc. The 'dev' forum is deserted...so I see that nobody's actually contributing to OS X by at least writing some software for it to make up for the fact that they're stealing every god damn piece of OS X software they can find.
So unless the 'piracy on Mac' snapshot comes from early to mid-2005 (or earlier), I don't think it's fair to say piracy on Mac is on the rise since the numbers are definitely going to get skewed by the OSx86 folks who won't think twice about pirating the latest Apple apps or games. These people just shouldn't count in the statistics because they're a bunch of nobody's that don't contribute in any way in keeping OS X alive...they're just using OS X because it's not Windows. They're doing the same thing on OS X that they would on Windows or Linux...pirate the OS and all the apps to go with it.
There are probably thousands of people using illegitimate copies of OS X on their PCs. It's undeniable that most of these guys are pirating the games and other software for OS X considering they've probably already bought or stolen the PC versions of their software. The numbers collected by Aspyr or whichever game dev are going to look bad...but they should at least take the above into account.
