I'm not at home right now, so I can't get my PC to compare, but I could swear that the XP version of Call of Duty 2 looks a hell of a lot better on high detail than the OS X version!

I'm even prepared to go so far as to say that the OS X version (demo) did not have any bump mapping at all (instead, some sort of motion-blur effect whenever you moved).

Did I miss something in the readme? Is the bump mapping and soft shadows not included in the OS X demo of Call of Duty 2?

Also, I tried the XP demo of Call of Duty 2 on my 3200+ AMD with 1gb ram and a 128mb 9800Pro card, and it ran like ass on high quality, but nothing compared to the utter slideshow that my new 1.82 MBP with 1.5gb ram put out. It was literaly 3 whole seconds between each frame (with anisotropic filtering and AA... without it, it was slightly faster).

I also don't remember this motion-blur thing from the XP demo which happens on OS X whenever I move around (high quality setting only). I wonder why it is there?

I guess this re-confirms that OS X is not ready for gaming by a longshot.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that it didn't fade to black when going too and from fullscreen either... POOR PORT!

Games usually look better on the PC, and usually with lower sys requirements too.

Given the same settings, I've never noticed a big difference in display quality between PC and Mac versions of most games. PC does usually have lower requirements, though, because that's what the companies optimize for.

Hmm ... something must be wrong with your Macbook pro then cause it runs beautifully on my iMac. Way better then it runs in bootcamp. Loadtimes are almost cut in half. Running on high quality in OS X and XP both make the game unplayable (unless i turn the textures down to low). Personally i like the OS X version alot better then the PC version

Your iMac with a 256 meg video card can't run high quality with high textures? Why? High textures should be no prob with a vid card with that much memory.

Any game thats ported over to mac will look as good as it does on the PC, unless theres some missing OpenGL extensions that Apple hasn't implemented yet in their drivers.

Nice grammar and nice motivation as to why I'm a troll.

If you want to do something constructive, like disprove my post, please bring me instructions on how to enable bump mapping and perhaps you could even provide a screenshot or two comparing the quality of OS X to the PC version if you wish.

I just ordered CoD2 from Amazon because the demo was absolutely awesome looking and performed great on my 2.0 GHz MBP (256MB VRAM). I've actually never seen a new ego shooter perform so well on a Mac before - and this is judging from what I saw on a portable Mac with a mobility GPU! I can't wait till I get the parcel.

eobert, either your MBP is fubar'd or you're a troll.

i've a ppc but this also has 256mb vram. Even though i can often select high texture settings in most games, they are always faster when i drop it that little bit to a more medium/high setting (rather than high/max. iyswim)

Guess there must be parts in the game when even 256 ain't enough! Maybe we need 512mb vram to even it all out through out the games? I'll get saving.. ; )

fwiw, CoD2 runs like a dream on my G5. Really fast and smooth at 1280x1024. I'm deffinetly buying this game!!

I've noticed that with a few other games, most notably the Sims 2. I can play the game through Boot Camp with full resolution and medium effects, but the game still stutters in OS X with no effects and a minimal resolution. Not even the Universal patch has helped the issue. Is this the fault of lazy game programmers, a DirectX vs OpenGL issue, or just poor 3D implementation in OS X?

it runs amazingly well until i turn on extra on the textures and high quality

then it slows down a lot , shame , as occasionally that looks incredible

will there be a patch for dual core chips to speed things up ?
