So I just got this game and I had a few questions on it.
1) What kind of boat do I need to build for settlers to go on it? I built this transport thing and it will only allow missionaries and explorers to go on it. What about settlers?
2) How do I attack other cities/units near the coast line with my frigate? I right click on the enemy and it doesn't do anything?
3) Anyone have a good resouce of what order to build various things (cities, economy, military wise) so I can gain an even footing in the beginning of the game? Thanks.

1) You can transport settlers in galleys, galleons, or transports. The boat you are talking about is a caravel. Any of those other boats will transport them.
2) Boats cannot attack land units, at all. They can bombard cities like catapults can.
3) I would recommend reading the strategy articles at www.civfanatics.com. They have a great selection of help there from beginner to expert

Thanks. However, I believe that I remember that in Civ 2, I was able to attack land units with military boats?

Yes, they've tinkered with the way naval units interact (yet again). In Civ 1 and 2 you could attack from the sea, in 3 you could bombard, but in Civ4--unfortunately--your ships cannot attack coastal targets. This is, of course, quite stupid, but it was a game balance issue that Firaxis decided on.
This is, in my opinion, one of the few let downs about Civ4. The combat system has left many bombardment units crippled. The good news is that they can be modded, if you're so inclined.

Talking about modding, I was thinking whether the 3D objects could be edited to more simple forms, in order to make the game playable to G4s. Anyone knows where the object files are stored? Did a quick search and couldn't find them all...

Hah, it's not even playable on G5s. Even the interface buttons have like a two-second lag. O quality assurance, where art thou?
