Spike is running a Voyager marathon this week and it motivated me to dig out my STV game discs. The only problem is that I haven't installed this game since I sold my G4 Tower. The game's installer wants OS9/Classic and I don't see that anywhere on my G5 Tower's discs (dual 2.5Ghz 6800 ultra).
I've searched the forums, macgamefiles, and Apyr's site for a workaround or patch. And while there are some updates available there's nothing that helped to install the game without Classic. Anyone know a way around this problem without buying or having access to a classic-compatible Mac?

There's an expansion pack for that game that includes an OS X version. It has trouble with pre-rendered animations, but otherwise works fine.
Or, at least it did when I tried it last. Which was a while ago, but on a G5 tower.

Sorry, I should've gone into more detail above. I own the "Dual Combo Pack" which includes both the original STV: Elite Force and the Expansion Pack. I had previously tried the expansion pack installer but it didn't work (different error). I tried it again just now to get the exact error message:
"Cound not locate a match for the search specified by the installer. Installation cannot continue."
There's a note on the Expansion disc regarding OSX. But it refers to the stuffit progress bar. It may appear to stop updating or be stuck, tho installation will continue. Apparently, I never get to that point. Instead the OSX installer seems to be searching for something - possibly the original game?!
At this point, I'd be happy to do a manual install just to get the game working again. But I'm not sure where to copy the files to on my hard drive. Is there web site or resource that can help Mac gamers get these older titles running again?

You should have a Classic installer on your restore disk.

I found the original discs that came with my G5 Tower. I hesitate to run the main installer since it's Panther 10.3.5. However, I was able to run the standalone installers including the bundled software installer. Classic / OS9 wasn't listed. And I couldn't find it on any of the other discs either (5 total). I'm beginning to wonder if Apple discontinued Classic before my G5 Tower was released (dual 2.5GHz G5, 6800 ultra). I'll try hunting around Apple's support site for more info.
Has anyone managed to install this game without Classic?

You don't have to reinstall the whole system, you'll be presented with options of what you can restore. You can select just the classic stuff.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

Thanks Yose. But it appears I'm missing some discs that came with my G5 Tower. After quite a bit of searching I found a backup on an old hard drive (ext boot drive). So I now have Classic installed and running properly on my G5! I hope to have ST:Eflite Force installed this weekend along with the expansion pack.

Had the same problem as you when I installed my first OSX-only system. Have you been able to use the updater (v1.2)? Apple-I on the game exe says it's version 1.1.1 and in the game itself says it's v1.1.0.
No info of course on the Aspyr pages...
Regards
PB.
