hi all,

I've built my PCs all the life and finally grew sick of it when I am having hardware problems (again) lately.

So I thought maybe I should consider Mac ....you know, get a new life.

I am interested in getting the iMac 24" , 2GB RAM, 7600GT . I really like OSX and the cool apps...but i am also a gamer...not really hardcore but I do play games like WoW, Company of Heroes...etc

Just wondering if the experts here can advise what the performance will be like... Can i get smooth framerate?

It's going to be an expensive investment so i do not want to make any mistake. It's a shame that the max GPU is 7600GT...a 7800/7900 would really make it an easy decision but the 7600GT is not even a mid-range performance card in the PC arena...

Thanks for your advice and help... and no, i do not want to get a Mac Pro

1. Read this:

iMac Core 2 Duo - High Rez gaming

2. Wait a few days. The iMac might get a refresh and a better GPU this week. I doubt it though.

World of Warcraft on a 24" iMac is the nicest I've seen it yet. And I played it on my Mac Pro with the 20" display too.

It's big. It's bright. And you can turn all the graphics on and still have a most enjoyable playing experience.

I have exactly that (except with just 1GB RAM) and in my opinion it's a great gaming machine (if you're a mac gamer )!
Flatout 2 with everything on maximum is great!!!!
Made my PC gamer friends look like this:

I've seen Call of Duty 2 on a 20" iMac, and it made me wet myself.

I think a 24" is too gorgeous to be trusted with games, so you should not buy it for gaming, lest you lose yourself in the abyss.

Seriously, though, with the ability to dual boot if you should so choose, the iMac is a stellar rig for games. Best of both worlds, baby.
