I currently have a compaq presario from like '99 with no upgrades, besides it haveing about 300mb of ram now, and for the most part i listen to music, talk on aim and play a 2d online game, but my computer is rather slow, and I was wondering if a macbook with 1 gig ram would be able to do these more fluently.

Your jaw will drop when you see how much faster that MacBook will run than your old Presario. I remember making the jump from a '97 Presario (333mHz, 96 MB RAM) to a modern computer: the speed will blow you away. Plus, OS X is much sexier than Windows 98.

alright, i was also wondering how it would compare to the Alienware Area-51 m5550 with 1.83Ghz 1 gig ram 120GB hard drive 128MB ATI Mobility™ Radeon® X1400 Graphics Card.

A Macbook could compete with that until you hit the graphics card. The Macbook ships with Intel integrated graphics, don't expect to play many games on the Macbook. The Radeon X1400 will blow the Macbook's integrated graphics out of the water.

The Macbook Pro comes with a gaming card.

If you're just playing 2D online games the graphics card probably won't matter. The graphics card will only mater with 3D gaming.

alright, one other thing with the macbook, if i can only upgrade one in my order which would serve more use, going from 1 gig ram to 2, or 80gb hd to 120gb.
And also can i have it upgraded in the future or would i have to buy a new one or something?

is the x1600 really a "gaming" card? It is nice that our MBP's come with a non-integrated video device, but I am not quite sure i would call it a gaming card. Some of the Alienware laptops would blow the MBP out of the water gaming wise, but im sure it has a lot to do with the shockwave as they aren't nearly as thin or good looking (imo) as the MBP

I haven't played many games on my MBP, a few hours of WoW, and some UO using Crossovers. I am debating loading Vista on it but im freaked on the driver front.
