Hello All,

I recently upgraded my RTCW: ET 2.6b to 2.6c Intel native... App works great, however when I try to connect to a server it says that I need to turn Punkbuster on. Well, I try, but to no avail.

I have installed PB, I have Re-Installed PB.... I feel like I have done all that I can.

If anyone has any advise, PLEASE let me know. This (sadly to some) is my favorite game.

Have you tried the console command to turn on PB (/pb_cl_enable)?

There's also the possibility that PB is getting installed in the wrong place or there could even be more than one copy on your system. I just started playing the game again after a long layoff and I kept on getting kicked because apparently I had an old version of PB. No matter how many times I manually updated, it never took, until I came across this:

Why doesn't my PunkBuster Client work even though everything is installed properly?

Check the fs_homepath game cvar from the game console (enter
"\fs_homepath"). Then, using the explorer program on your computer, verify that the path pointed to by fs_homepath does in fact have a "pb" subfolder that includes at least these three files: pbsv.dll, pbcl.dll and pbag.dll (or pbsv.so, pbcl.so, and pbag.so on Linux systems). If not, then either locate and copy the "pb" folder from your game installation into the fs_homepath location, or change the fs_homepath cvar to point to your game installation. Note that the "pb" folder must have read and write permissions.

It turned out that the path was pointing to an old version of PB which was buried in my library/application support folder, not the new version in the game folder. Once I copied over the new version, everything was fine.

Hope this helps in some way.

Dunno if this will help either, but there is a tool that will download and patch PB manually (official tool, by the makers of PB):
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures

I have had this tool correct random problems with PB that should have been fine but weren't. Voodoo, I guess. But even if the tool runs in rosetta, it just might correct your installation...

Good luck, soldier!

PS. I do vaguely recall someone warning me not to ever connect w/o punkbuster enabled, or there was always a possibility of hack being pushed into my ET install that disabled PB permanently. I just rolled my eyes at the time, but hey, who knows?
