Yes, I realize I'm behind the times in games. My wife and I fell in love with Lego star wars and instead of blowing the money on a higher end machine, I figured the PS2 was more than enough.
We've finished both Lego star wars games and I'm looking for some recommendations about what to buy next. I would like to have something that's multiplayer, and fun. I'm not very interested in FPS stuff.
thanks

Hmm. Well it depends on your taste in games. Any racing/fighting/sports game should be multiplayer. Like Dakar, I'd reccomend Burnout (especially Burnout Revenge). There's a number of action RPGs (Somewhat similar to Lego Star Wars) like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance series, X-Men Legends series, Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Champions of Norrath. I've played several of those with my wife and had alot of fun.
Oh, found a list of some multiplayer co-op's: Amazon.com: "Cooperative Multiplayer Playstation 2 Games"

Like serphium said, it depends on the type of games you're into. If you like the role-playing/fantasy/adventure type games, Kingdom Hearts I and II, Final Fantasy X and XII, Onimusha and Shadow of the Colossus are some of the best the PS2 has to offer. If you want some fighting and gore, God of War was a recent hit as well. I don't know anything about networked multiplayer games on the PS2.

First off, I would like to highly second Shadow of the Colossus. It has amazing graphics, though it is not multiplayer I think you may really enjoy it. You play as a boy trying to bring his girlfriend back to life, and to do that you have to beat I believe its 16 gigantic titans, each requiring a different stratagy, and a variety of enviornments and looks to each, not to mention their battle tactics and attack moves.
And as for multiplayer, Timesplitters 2 is a FPS, but it is a real fun game to play multiplayer on, me and my friend have had hours and hours of fun playing against the A.I. in the various multiplayer modes.
The Sims 2 is multiplayer and well worth the fun of playing together. (life is so much more enjoyable when the work part goes by in super speed.)
And of course if you like the battle types of games, [B]Hunter The Reckoning: Wayward{/B] (Theres a few different versions, but I think this is the only one on Ps2.). You may like this one as you and your wife could play cooperatively, you get to choose from 4 characters, and each has thier own special gun and melee weapon. I also played the one on xbox (where you can have up to 4 players, and we had a blast). It is technically an rpg, as you improve your skills and such over time. I beleive you can buy this on amazon.com for about $15, and since I don't see it on gamestop.com that may be the logical choice.
Those are just a few games I can come up with at the moment off the top of my head, look them up online if you think they sound good to you.
Hope it helps.

Oh man, where to start...
Guitar Hero 2 is a really fun, addictive game that you can play multiplayer and have a blast doing it. Did I mention it's fun?
Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and DragonQuest series are great single-player RPGs. If you bought the larger, older model PS2 and you can find Final Fantasy XI + hard drive then you can play one of the most epic MMOs right from your PS2, but the game takes a lot of time.
Nothing beats Gran Tourismo 4 for a driving sim. Also, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence is a great game in a genre all its own... definitely not one to be missed.
...And how could anyone forget about Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas?
Also check out GameSpot:Video Games PC PlayStation 2 Xbox 360 Wii PS3 GameCube PSP DS GBA PS2 PlayStation 3 and look at the top PS2 games of all time list.

The highlights of my PS2 games are:
- Shadow of the Colossus. Great game, probably one of my favorite games of all time.
- Ico. Same people who made Shadow of the Colossus. More adventure type game, very good.
- Katamari Damacy. Using the analog sticks you roll a sticky ball around grabbing objects to make the ball bigger. Sounds strange but it's a lot of fun
- God of War. Very violent adventure game. Great game though.
- God of War II. See above. Even better than the original.
- Guitar Hero (both). Probably played the most out of all our party games during parties.
