I bought anlg LCD tv, and it has a DVI input in th back. However when I connect the DVI cable and tune the TV to the right input channel, it tells me invalid format, can anyone help me figure out what the problem is?

The jack on the back of the TV says RGB in and the cable that the guys at best buy sold me fits in there but I keep getting thi invalid format crap.

Did the adapter cost about $20? If so it's just a simple pin adapter, designed for video cards that can detect it and output the correct signal.
To convert from VGA on the Xbox360 to DVI for a TV you need a ~$300 scan converter. At which point you may as well sell your 360 and buy the elite (which has HDMI, which can be converted to DVI for $5).
