It really doesn't matter. Just buy something that you think is fairly nice and isn't too expensive. Madcatz or Sony would probably be "recommended" for a PS2. It's just copper though. Monster is great if you feel like connecting your components with solid money. I doubt you'll notice a better picture though.

And by component I think you mean composite... component is video-only and usually for HD.

He probably wants component because most of the modern PS2 games support 480p. And from the games that ive seen (God of War 2, Guitar Hero 2) you can really tell the difference between 480i and 480p.

I have the sony ps2 component cables and they work just fine. No need to spend extra on the monster ones. Pelican or Mad Catz are also fine.

Just to clarify, the PS2 only supports 480p and 1080i on games that support that rez. The only ones that comes to mind is Shadow of the Colossus and (I think) FFXII in 480p. I don't know any that support 1080i. I know there are others, but I can't name any. Most games play back 480i tho. I play FFXI on my PS2 hooked up to a Dell 2405 24" display, using component cables, and the game only outputs 480i tho.
