Not to try and start a heated debate on the whole console wars thing again, but after the numerous "discussions" regarding the issue of Nintendo going the way of SEGA or worse yet bankrupt, cause of the immence power (marketing, technical, etc) of the (relitavely) new players, Microsoft and market leader(former) Sony, i think, its worth mentioning now that, Nintendo as a company is worth more than SONY as a company(all of SONY).

I'm having a deja-vous here...of when Jobs emailed all Apple staff and pointed out that Apple had surpassed Dell's market value.

Remember? Nintendo is going out of business any day now. After the Wii they will likely stop making consoles.

I'm not surprised. Everything I've heard suggests Sony has been doing poorly lately.
That Nintendo has been the Apple of the console business the past couple of generations.

I'm actually surprised, because although i knew Nintendo would do well due to the NDS, GBA and Wii, and turn a profit, i never expected the company's value to reach (let alone surpass) that of Sony, which is in so many markets...... Vaio, Bravia, PlayStation, Walkman, Handycam, Cybershot, etc.
Funny thing is, so many fanboys(and analysts) called the 2 major contributors of Nintendo's current success(NDS, Wii) underpowered gimmicks. And less than 12 months after the launch of Wii....the company is worth more than Sony, turning a profit, selling more units than SONY in all territories, broadening the gaming market... and more importantely(to me) innovating.

Nintendo, MS, and Sony can make all the money they want...as long as they give us gamers good games. And regarding the issue of gimmicks-cheapness, power of the consoles did not decide the market leader in the past two decades, it was the games. Nintendo was selling SNES games until 1996-97 (well into the 32/64 bit era), PSX games were coming out till 2002, and god knows how long the PS2 will live.

Right now, Nintendo is sitting atop the videogame industry. The DS is outselling the PSP, the GBA is still being bought up, and the Wii continues to be the buzz item of the industry after almost 8 months on the market.
Not to mention that they're actually making money on their hardware, and not just the software. With Sony losing gobs of money on every PS3 sold, they're forced to hope that FUTURE software sales will bail them out. They'll continue to do well in other markets, but not amazing. They're a high-end brand. In the HDTV market, for example, most people are more apt to go with a VIZIO or Westinghouse instead of a high-priced Sony BRAVIA.
Now I'm rambling. Sony is not looking all that stunning right now.

That's actually pretty surprising, considering Sony also makes movies, TV's, computers, and other crap, while Nintendo only makes video games.
Gotta hand it to the big N, they know how to make videogames/systems.
