I've had an X800XT on order for almost three months now, and it's beginning to look like ATi will ship them two days before the sun runs out of fuel. Before I ordered it I checked benchmarks, and the X800 seemed the better of the two cards. But, given that I can go into my local computer place tomorrow and walk out with a 6800, is the difference something I will really notice, or is it something which would only show up in benchmarks?

The X800XT is definitely better on most every basis for comparison. I was surprised to find that the 6800 is exceeded in some benchmarks by not only the X800 also the 9800. Unless you need dual dual-link DVI support that is offered by the 6800, I'd pick the 9800 over the nVidia 6800.

I would go with the X800 XT. I have the 6800 on my PC, while games look very good on the machine, some of the effects and FPS are not as nice as the ones on X800's (for Half Life 2).

Thanks, guys. I will stick with the X800, assuming ATi ever ships them.
