As far as i understand a chipped xbox 360 doesn't work for online gaming. M$ banned most of them a month or so ago. All the peeps i know that got theirs chipped had to buy a second box to play online.

yer i was talking to the guy about that in the pub, he said that cause he bough a 2nd console, however he knew some ppls xbox's he's chipped that hadnt been banned, but online gaming aside as i think i will do most of that on PC/Mac cause it will mainly be FPS which i think should always be played with a mouse. i think i'll mainly use it for solo hardcore gaming, ill have my wii to play with my house mates which is usually group gaming, and PC/Mac for FPS online gaming its just kinda like £200 for a xbox with games if it chipped.

Modding your gaming consoles isn't illegal (you can't be thrown in jail for it, I'm sure), it just isn't supported by the manufacturer. The least you can expect is voiding your warranty.
