Does anyone remember this game?

Used to work on OS 7...one of the greatest games ever and I can't find it. Any download library ~1994-1996 would have it. ANy hints?

Yes, I think it required 256 colors, used to enjoy it a lot.

As it turns out, Diamonds is one of the few things still salvageable from the deteriorating remains of the once great AOL Mac Games archive.

Macintosh Garden

Seems to be having database trouble, though. Best place for abandonware AND it's legal now.

Well, in Diamonds' case it is, since Diamonds was always shareware (AFAIK). I'm pretty sure that abandonware in general isn't legal, though.

It was a gray-market area until recently. Now Abandonware is 100% legal. Here's the important part:

On November 27, 2006, the Librarian of Congress, on the recommendation of the Register of Copyrights, announced six classes of works which will not be subject to the prohibition against circumventing access controls (the DMCA) through October 27, 2009. One of these six classes includes:

“...computer programs and video games distributed in formats that have become obsolete and that require the original media or hardware as a condition of access, when circumvention is accomplished for the purpose of preservation or archival reproduction of published digital works by a library or archive. A format shall be considered obsolete if the machine or system necessary to render perceptible a work stored in that format is no longer manufactured or is no longer reasonably available in the commercial marketplace.”

Rather interesting, older editions of Cracks & Numbers would now be legal. Great repository of vintage serial numbers and cracks that you can use to register those old programs.

Loved that game and its addicting music. Anyone know if the music was original or not? I know I still have a copy somewhere.

IANAL, but it looks to me like that only applies if you're a library or an archive. I don't think some average Joe downloading an old game just to play it would qualify.

Not that they ever enforce it, of course.

My other favorite was Spin Doctor.

Just something about those older puzzle games.

Well, that would be using the library or archive. Anyway, an unenforced copyright is as good as no copyright at all — it's not a criminal offense.

Ah yes, also known as Clockwerx, this was another gem from Tetris-creator Alexey Pajitnov. I've always wondered why we haven't seen any modern clones of this game (to my knowledge).
