I've been waiting for Leopard to come out to buy a new Macbook, and now that it finally is, one of my considerations is whether or not I'll be able to play The Sims 2 on it. I'm thinking about going with a MacBook 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM. Would this be okay for playing The Sims 2? Also, would I need to upgrade the graphics card?

If these Macbooks specs aren't going to work for The Sims 2, how about the Macbook Pro - and what upgrades, if any, might I need for the game to work best on Pro? Thanks for any help.

Edit: I also plan on playing the Windows version of The Sims, since I already bought PC versions of the game (am currently playing them on a family member's PC instead). Would changing to Windows on the Mac and running the PC versions make any difference in terms of game play quality being lesser?

You can't upgrade the graphics card in the MacBook. Sims 2 should run fine on the new MacBook, since it ran ok on the old one. I believe the Sims 2 Pets expansion adds multithreaded OpenGL support, which should further help performance. Sims 2 would fly on the base MacBook Pro.

The Windows versions of games generally have better performance than the Mac versions; typically about 30% faster, but the difference can be up to 10x.

considering the macbook just got a new updated graphics chipset, it should be fine.

Thanks for the info/advice. I think I'll be going with the MB Pro.
