According to the Bungie website the melee fix/update will go live late tonight (wednesday feb 20) so it looks as if tomorrows game with be a great test of the new melee.

It seems whenever Dakar and I face off, we always try to stick each other with plasma grenades. 92% of the time it ends in a draw.




The other 2% he cheats.



So let me get this straight. The grenade stops in mid-air, turns 90° and hits me in the right shoulder... that my friend is one magic grenade.

This next picture is kind of hard to make out. In the front, that's Dakar cloaked with a shot gun. In the back is Crbside in red & Kevin in white. Oh, and that's me in the bottom left corner waving to the camera.



Here's a dead me flying off the man cannon like Peter Pan. Dakar is pre-occupied with killing Crbside that he doesn't see Kevin flying in the background with guns a blazing.

I just did the update, but sadly it does not seem to have addressed the melee issue.

I'm guessing the reduced latency window will hurt me -- I'm not on the best connection. Up to a month ago, I think this would have given me a bunch of double-kills in my favor -- now, probably the opposite.

Also finally got my Overkill achievement last night as well. Ended up getting it on a Crazy King match, which helped me since everyone bunches up together on that game type, easily allowing me to place a couple of rockets up 4 people's asses in a row.

Sorry dude, didn't mean to bring you down. I will say that I think its a little different for me since I got to 30 on LW instead of TS. I'm not nearly 30 on TS. Also, I went down from 30 to 28 last night on LW since I sucked so bad. Definitely rusty from taking time off.

And the only reason I post about my petty accomplishments here is because when I try to brag about it at work I usually get laughed at. At least here I only get berated by like-minded people.

It took you only two months and 400 ranked matches to achieve Major. Not bad at all.

In comparison it took me a little over a month to reach 30, and I'm sure I had more matches logged at that point.

It took two come-from-behind victories in my final games to touch 28, and I won my last 3 by a combined 10 points total. My heart was absolutely pounding the last game.

On the flip-side, it seems I've finally confounded the truskill system enough that its eased up a bit. 27 took four games and 28 three, which is better than the 5 and 6 I was averaging during 21-26. Of course, things are going well enough that I'm starting to think 35 is not out of question, which is bad, as I'm taking my eyes off the prize. I just really want to be a Strike Commander.

In short, I need to see if I can keep my 28 before I start making headway.

I was just looking over the Gamertag listing on page 6 and I was surprised to note that ::maroma:: was a 16 just a month ago. What a prick.

If you don't get to Major by Thursday we should spend a bit of time with a team of 4 of us and play some ranked TS and try to get you ranked up. It would help me get my TS skill lvl up as well. Its about 21, and I can't seem to get any higher than that.

So anyway, it took till my second game as a Staff Captain for someone to comment. Oddly, it was a Major wondering how I hadn't gotten to 30 even though my "stats" were better than his, but still. Only heard another comment the rest of the night, in a weird game where my team had 5 betrayals. I have no idea why I was betrayed, but I didn't boot the guy because he was early kill leader in a tight game we were down in on Snowbound. Somehow a truce was forged by the end, and we snatched victory from the hands of defeat.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as arrogance or modesty, but I get irritated early on in games when I'm my team's kill leader. I'm a slow executioner, so I always feel like if I'm leading the team, we're in real trouble. Atypical night, last night, too, as I had a few grenade double-kills, and way more grenade kills than normal. I'll take it, though.

I hate leading the pack too, makes my hands shake

I've noticed I'm typically an early-breaker, getting the lion's share of the first 20 kills or so and then I slow down.

Case in point was my recap of the LW game. I sprinted to 17 kills and then got stuck at 17 until the end of the game.

Ouch, where to start...

I played 6 games and the first two were outrageously laggy. Unfortunately, me losing 4 of those games wasn't due to the lag, sigh.

The major heartbreak was One Bomb on Valhalla which, as you know, I brag about never losing on. I tied (thank god) but we would've won if it wasn't for the idiot who carried the bomb in the first round.

I whip the Mongoose alllll the way past the entire other team and slam it into the base entrance. I notice some dots behind us so I allow the bomb guy ahead of me and I turn around to kill our adversaries. The bomb carrier SITS IN A F'ING CORNER RIGHT NEAR WHERE YOU ARM IT and waits to be killed. I almost died of a heart-attack . I kill 3 guys and arm the bomb, of course by now the entire team is descending upon a shield-less Fatty, so they kill me and easily disarm it.

I normally don't yell at people in Halo, but I was so pissed this guy didn't take two goddamned steps and arm the bomb while I was covering his ass. I told him my concerns once I re-spawned.

The rest of the match was an arduous struggle (like every other game today) expect for the last round of defense in which I went absolutely batsh!t and killed everyone I could see.

Just to quiet those who think man cannon headshots are luck, I present you with another perfect shot.


After a crushing loss of BT Slayer at Last Resort I figured to switch gears to Team HC.

First HC game was Neutral Bomb on the Pit, and we got SPANKED. Second game was HC Slayer on HC Construct and it was another heartbreaker (we were winning by 12 kills at one point). I did, however, experience the new melee fix. Me and another poor soul killed each-other with well-timed beatdowns. Since I've never seen this happen before I say it's a good way of quelling controversial battles.

Finally, hell-bent on winning a single f'ing match, I get HC Slayer on HC Guardian. We were losing until about 40-41 kills and were down a player. Final score: 50-47 good guys. I breathed a sigh of relief and shut my 360 off for a few hours...my blood pressure has finally returned to normal.

It also should be noted that I was the leader in every game of Slayer I played sans the last one...but my teammate was (luckily) a 50.

Edit: BTW, Dakar, now that you've gone gold does this mean we can play matchmaking together again?

So after a few games with the new melee update, heres my .02$. I am actually pretty pleased with the update and i think Bungie handled it in the only way possible. A few times i got into a little battle of hand to hand combat and lost straight up but truthfully i always had little health going in, but i also found that MANY times during melee on melee action both the enemy and myself would go down so i would at least trade kills with the guy.

on another note: what time do the festivities start tomorrow? and if anyone wants to give it a shot i made a team S.W.A.T. (no shields, BR's unlimited ammo, no other weapons) game type last night that we could try out.

In other H3 news I turned my luck around and won 4 out of 4 in my last outing. All Ranked Big Team and mostly because the first match was a slaughter and we partied up after that.



Phew, finally made it past 10 in RBT too, things are looking up for Fatty!

I also friended the best kid from my team for future RBT mania. I'm starting to find out that RBT is almost impossible to win on a regular basis unless:

1. Always communicate about weapons, vehicles, strategy, etc... Silent teams lose!
2. Don't grab a weapon or vehicle you aren't proficient in. My teammate was a maniac with the Banshee so he'd give me the sniper and I'd let him have the Banshee
3. Don't be afraid to hunker down and play defense on obj. games. Sometimes letting the other team die at your base makes for an easy switch of momentum.

Yeah, bungie tries to downplay it as a minor tweak (which it is) that will have little effect on gameplay, but I'd bet that over 50% of those former "close" contests now go double-kill, which is a huge scoring swing during TS games.

I was playing TS on Guardian, when I very keenly spotted this bastard trying to snipe. In an oddly bold move, I decided to unload with little regard for my own life.

I managed to shake him up a little bit, and when I informed my teammates of his location, it was met with quite a bit of confusion.

I've been trying to follow the progress of our good friends stogieman and Andy8 as they've been very dedicated in trying to progress in Team Slayer. Team Slayer, however, has been less than cooperative, and both guys have been stuck at 13 and 12, respectively, for the last week. Hang in there guys. I was stuck at a set of levels for two months.

I have one suggestion. For the game of Neutral Bomb on Isolation use the HC Isolation variant which switches out the shield regenerators for bubble shields.
