This is probably wrongly parsed, but, I have just come back to mac and have a lot of old apple games that are from the mid 90's. Myst 1,2,3 among them. I have been on PC since then and am wondering if they will work on a Mac Pro. Also, I have adventure games that say windows/Mac. Will they work. I know there are going to be differences. Just wondering how to figure it out from the Mac old days. Thanks.

Sorry, my OS will be Tiger. 8 GB's ram. Mac Pro.

None of your old games will work without updates, because the Macs from the mid-'90s used Motorola 68K and PPC chips, while the newer ones use incompatible Intel chips. From a quick Google search, it appears that there is an update for Myst III. You'll have to check out the specific games to see whether they can be made to work.

Thanks for your input. This is what I expected. Again, thanks from a former Mac user.

Actually, there's a little more that I didn't mention that I probably should have. Mac OS X includes technology to work with programs for PPC Macs, but only if those games were written specifically for OS X. So you'll still need updates, but the games might work even if the update isn't for Intel Macs.

This game is a year or so old. Will it work on the intel mac? My PC wasted the hdd about half way through. "Dreamfall".

Considering you own it already, if you read the box or CD case, you'd know it was a Windows only game.

If you can find a used PowerPC Mac somewhere, you might be able to play your old games as long as you are running Tiger (not Leopard) and you have the Classic environment installed.

Unfortunately, Apple disabled this feature in Leopard, so you are stuck with Tiger and below.

Ticking sound coming from a .pkg package? Don't let the .bom go off! Inspect it first with Pacifist. Macworld - five mice!
