How Is The Mighty Mouse As A Gaming Mouse?

I assume alright.
But I do see two problems. For the wireless version, it might not be fast enough when reacting in a game, but I don't know. And then the scroll ball; it might not function as your typical scroll wheel most mice have. A lot of FPS games switch weapons through the scroll wheel. One "click" down switches to the next weapon. Are there clicks, or any way of knowing you've gone down one on the Mighty Mouse? It seems to me like its almost a little touch pad on top of the mouse, but I've never used one, so I can't know.

The Mighty Mouse clicks like a normal mouse — it has left-side, right-side, scroll-ball and top clicks (as in literal clicks). The biggest problem for me is that the left and right clicks are the same thing — they're both just top clicks. It decides which one you're doing by seeing whether your index finger is near the front of the mouse. So basically, you can't left-click toward the middle of the mouse like I usually do, and if you want to right-click, you have to lift your index finger.
Overall, I wouldn't recommend Mighty Mouse for gaming.

It's annoying for gaming. If you have a finger on the left side of the mouse, any click registers as a left-click, so ... you end up having to lift your index finger to right-click.
I use my right-click for jumping around in FPSs. With the Mighty Mouse, I can't shoot and jump around at the same time -- and in Quake 3 that sucks.

Hmm, didn't know that about the mouse. I assumed it was a normal right and left click mouse, only with a single faceplate.
So do you guys use the Mighty Mouse normally and then switch to a different mouse when you go to game, or do you just permanently use a different mouse?
I would like to get one to sort of complete the Mac experience, and for my current iBook its no problem, because I hardly game on it, but when I get a better Mac, I was hoping it would suffice. Oh well.

Taking into consideration the miniscule time I've spent with the Mighty Mouse and the huge amount of time I've spent with "normal" mice, I will say that I'll still use the latter such as my Logitech G5, both for gaming and everyday tasks.
I just don't like how Apple mice feel during most tasks...

You assume incorrectly.
It is terrible.
The grip isn't suitable. The wheel is too sensitive and too unreliable because of its extra axis. The right click sometimes registers as left and vice versa.
I love the mighty mouse, but not for games.

I love my mighty mouse as well, but the overly sensitive wheel / ball is terrible for scrolling through weapons or what have you. I use a Logitech MX518 for my rare gaming endeavors.

The biggest problem with gaming and the mighty mouse is that you can't click both buttons at once. I've played enough games with it (Half-Life 1 and 2, the Sims, Halo) so it can be done, but there are much better mice for gaming. As mentioned, Logitech is always a good bet.

Not only that, but at least for me, it takes quite a bit of practice to click either button reliably. Even just in normal use, I'm constantly bringing up contextual menus (or failing to do so) by accident. In a game where I'm trying to react quickly, forget it.

I only have a wireless mighty on my mini in the living room--I don't game on it.

I have a Logitech v270 Bluetooth mouse for my MBP and I think it works great. Granted, I don't play too many shooters. I pick up HL2 everyone once in a while, but mostly play Diablo 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2.

Ever try an FPS on an IBM nub? It's absurd.

The real question is this:
Is the Mighty Mouse good as a mouse, period?

I'd say it's decent as a mouse. If you don't play games, you might like it. I think the scroll ball is pretty neat.

I don't mind it as a mouse, but the scroll ball gets jammed way too often. Two of mine are irrevocably stuck to scrolling upwards only
(Yes, I've tried every recommended cleaning method to no avail).

I like the Mighty Mouse (wired) for gaming although I disabled the horizontal action of the wheel. I have found the only real problem is the scroll ball getting gummed up and not working reliably until I clean it.

It still amazes me when I read folks say that "...you have to lift a finger to right-click on a Mighty Mouse."
Am I the only person on this planet that has ALWAYS, since I can remember, used TWO FINGERS with any mouse? Maybe it's because I was stuck in a Windoze world for 11+ years in my former career, where there's typically always been "two button mice..." but I've *always* had my index finger on the left-click button, and my middle finger on the right-click button. Maybe that's why I love the Mighty Mouse...I never have to move a finger...literally...to left or right-click.
I must not be the norm, then, because I keep reading on other message boards how badly the MM "sucks" because other people think it's so painstakingly *difficult* to move a finger to right-click. I don't get it.
I have a wired MM and just got the wireless MM this past Christmas. I haven't tried the wireless MM yet for PC gaming (no Bluetooth module on my PC), but the wired MM is no good for gaming. My MM jumps all over the place when playing games, sometimes spiraling up in a corner of the screen for no good reason. I still like the MM for general use on a PC, and if the PC games I play worked on my MacBook (Call of Duty 4, BF2142, etc.), I'd know if the wireless MM was decent for gaming or not.
So to echo a few others here, the MM is great for general use; not quite for gaming.
