Hi All,

Looking for an affordable alternative to the old Radeon 9600 card in my dual 2.0ghz G5. Found an nvidia 6200 with 256mb vram on ebay for $85, is this a good deal? Any Radeon cards with 128mb vram are at least $129, and the 256mb cards are $185+ I've never heard of this card before. I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I like to play games as much as anyone, Nascar 2003, Medal of Honor, Splinter Cell, etc. Any opinions on this card would be appreciated as the auction ends in 18 hours

Here's the link...

Apple nVIDIA GeForce 6200 256MB DDR2 AGP G4 & G5 NEW - eBay (item 290216770636 end time Mar-29-08 23:21:08 PDT)

Thanks,
Tom

Oops, just re-read it, it's a modded PC card...it figures.

That's a step down compared to the 9600.

And it's hugely overpriced. The GeForce 6200 is a bargain-basement video card, worth no more than $30.

Another tip to keep in mind when comparing video cards - the second digit in the name is more important than the first. If the first digit is from 1-5, it's low end. If it's a 6 or a 7, it's midrange, and an 8 or a 9 generally means it's high end. This can vary - there have been some midrange x5xx cards and some high end x7xx cards (most notably the Radeon 9500 and 9700).

But generally, you don't want to move from an x6xx card to an x2xx card, unless you're also moving up several generations.

"That's Mama Luigi to you, Mario!" *wheeze*
