Hello everybody,

Does anyone know how to play the new Spore creature creator on Mac OS X Tiger? I haven't bought Leopard yet and It really sucks that its only for the new operation system. Common, it runs on Windows XP, how can Mac OS X Tiger be any worse??

Is there any kind of method to be able to run this??

Let me know, thanks!

Lol, thanks... yea that would be a solution to the problem, defeats the whole purpose of coming over to the mac but hey for the money XP would cost I would just buy Leopard..

I guess there is no program that enables the game to think its on another version?

If Spore is programmed for Leopard, making it "think" it's on Leopard without actually being on Leopard would just make it crash instead of politely refusing to run.

Crossover may work... eventually.

Really shows how OS X has lagged with API development when a game can run on Windows 2002 but requires OS X 2007.

Not really. It just shows that companies devote more resources to backwards compatibility on Windows than on Mac OS X. It's not like Windows had NSOperationQueue before OS X did or something.

I ran the Spore creator for 2 days with Windows XP and the Vmware Fusion 2.0 beta because I just couldn't be bothered setting up bootcamp for the demo. It ran surprisingly well.

But really, just get Leopard.

It runs on Tiger, but you need to edit the correct .plist files in order to be able to install it, then do it again on the installed application. It can be done with text edit. I have detailed instructions at home which I can post later. But essentially you need to right-click on the installer, adn choose show package contents. You then need to navigate to a specific .plist file (instal.plist rings a bell), and open the file file in text edit. You are looking for a line way towards the bottom that looks something like:
<string>Min System Version<string>
<string>10.5.3<string>

You simply replace the 10.5.3 with 10.4.11, save it, then install.

Then on the installed application, you look for another .plist file in much the same way (but has a different name and is in a different place), but you should find the same text at the bottom of the file.

The result is Spore runs fine. Not as well as in XP, or even in 10.5 I imagine, but it was smooth. The most noticeable quirk was when dragging the body part from the list to the creature, the part disappears until you place it on the creature.

Huh, a bit surprising, but nice. I wonder why they'd set the it to 10.5 if they weren't actually targeting 10.5.
