I'll admit, for some time I was caught up in WoW, but not too long after the expansion I became disillusioned with wasting 20+ hours /wk of my life just to acquire new gear and see zones that were only slightly more interesting than twisted daydreams of a crackhead spider monkey. Also, did I mention poor game balance? Who the **** came up with forcing all meaningful PVP into arenas?
Anywho, I digress. From what I've seen of WAR it appears that they may actually have something impressive on their hands. Some honest-to-gods fun PVP/RVR gameplay combined with the more mature and gritty feel of Age of Conan (but without the piss poor mechanics). Perhaps it's something you can play without rejecting the vast majority of society (or installing a loo in your computer room).
Thoughts?

From what I've read of it, I don't think WAR will be a lot more casual than WOW. It's just in the nature of MMORPGs to require some time commitment. WOW's problem is that it has a strangely spiky time commitment — when leveling, you're allowed and even kind of encouraged to go it solo, but then suddenly you're expected to group constantly with 25 (or 5, if you're doing PVP) other people at prearranged times once you reach the level cap. It's sort of a bait-and-switch. WAR seems to be taking this into account and trying make the curve more gentle, but we'll see how that actually works out.
I don't have a computer that can play it right now, but once the upcoming refreshes happen, I'll probably give this game a try. I really like that they've made tanking meaningful in PVP so it doesn't turn into a silly DPS-fest.

I haven't decided yet. They are working on a 40k MMORPG that I may wait for. I think I would rather play a futuristic version versus another medivel sword and sorcery game.

The Warhammer 40k MMO is so far off that it will probably be competing with the virtual reality-based World of Warcraft 7: The Mild Annoyance of Sargeras. Definitely in the 2010s, it sounds like. Also, THQ has no experience with MMOs and seems to be talking a pretty big game, which says "naivete" to me. So I mean, I guess it could be cool, but I'm not going to get my hopes up until I see…y'know, something about the Warhammer 40k game.

It looks quite cool, but if I can't play it on my G5 it's a no go for me. Plus, MMOs just require too much time commitment.

Sure, it is going to be a while, but I am in no rush to play any MMO. I have played a couple so far (WoW, Requiem, Choas Lords), and I find the mass majority of MMO players to be insanely annoying at best.

I'm playing the open beta at the moment, and it seems pretty good. It's hard to tell as my video card can't really handle it (x600 Pro).
When I get an HD4870 I'll re-evaluate it.

Meh, it's basically WoW with (much) better PVP. That's fine with me, I'll buy it and play for a while.

It improves on every flaw WoW had, really.
And remember, WoW was basically [every other MMO before it, simplified].
