I think it's a little excessive when the DLC achievements is almost half of the game's total achievements. It's almost impossible for a completionist like myself to get 100% when they keep adding achievements with paid DLC.

It's no different than Halo, though. Same deal with ODST (Though achievement points are probably spaced a little better between packs).

You can also presume this is the final DLC from the name of the pack, and the fact that Gears 3 is virtually guaranteed for 2010 (And I imagine will be announced at E3, part of the reason they're announcing this now even though it's due in late July).

Oh, I wasn't speaking of just Epic but the trend of DLC in general. Of course I'm not happy with Halo 3's DLC either. I still have to wait until the fall before I can get my 100%. At least Bungie eventually made the Heroic maps free and dropped the price of the Legendary map packs.

Also, do you really think GoW3 will be released next year? Isn't MS due to release a new system in 2011? You'd think they would save this game as a launch title for their next system.

Yes, I really think GoW3 comes out next year. MS releasing a new console in 2011 is just an analyst's prediction. The launch title, quite obviously, will be Halo 4 (by a non-bungie team, I might add) when it finally does drop.

I just don't see anyone complaining about maxing out current consoles yet.

I swear this idea just got mentioned Wednesday night. I think they secretly don't want to implement it permanently, which is probably why they're springing it so fast -- no one is expecting it and they'll probably get lower turn-out.

Gears of War 2 goes old school this weekend

Well, as old school as 2006, anyway, as Epic has announced another Gears of War 2 weekend event. This weekend, the sequel will get a touch of the original Gears of War experience, as Epic will be turning off the concussion from smoke grenades (thank you!), and limiting team size to 4 in public matches in the Execution - Warzone, Annex - KOTH, and Guardian - Submission playlists. The madness has started as of 9 AM EST this morning, actually, and will continue through Tuesday, May 26, at 9 AM EST. You can thank Memorial Day for that extra day of fun, folks!

I haven't done a lot of XP... yet. Currently sitting at level 6. Reaching level 15 should be no problem if I stick with War Zone and Guardian.

I wish they had chart of the XP curve. I think someone on the GoW2 forums mentioned that at level 83 you're half-way to 100.

So, the non-concussive smokes were excellent. I enjoyed this weekend probably the most ever. Still lag issues and some odd behavior (remember how I had trouble with the chainsaw now working). I hope they implement this permanently (albeit with 5 people. 4 places too great a burden on every player. It's easy to swing a game with one very good or bad player).

Their forums are bursting with support for the non-concussive smoke, so now it's up to EPIC to swallow its pride and make the change permanent or show everyone they don't actually listen to their fans.

I've already decided that I won't be playing again until they make the new smokes permanent or TU4 and the new maps are out.

Internet bitching continues to do something constructive within the video game industry

Some consumers found the pricing confusing (Dark Corners was priced at 1600 MS points, All Fronts at $20 US), and wondered if this was a plan to get the more serious "Gears of War 2" fans to 'pay twice' for content that they'd already bought on Xbox LIVE. Another complaint was that "All Fronts Collection" wouldn't be carried by retailers in their country or region, and they'd be left out of the deal.

So while the "All Fronts Collection" was designed as a limited promotion to bring new players into the fold, it also upset some of the fans who've been loyal to Gears of War for a long time, which was certainly not our intention.

IGN: So what's the new plan?

Rod Fergusson: First, we decided to make Dark Corners available for 1200 points on Xbox LIVE Marketplace, a reduction from 1600. Don't get me wrong, Dark Corners is the biggest Game Add-on we've ever released, and it was a good deal at the old price, but based upon community feedback this just felt like the right thing to do. Also, we've decided to release the All Fronts Collection on Xbox LIVE Marketplace in order to make it available to the widest audience possible. The All Fronts Collection will be priced at 1600 Microsoft Points, and both offers will be available July 28th at 12:00 AM GMT in twenty-five countries around the world.

So they ran a double xp weekend (with a bonus for winning) this weekend. It was my a good excuse for me to make a push for 40 (since I'll need it for an achievement in the upcoming map pack), which I did get.

Why I won't make 50:
• from 35 to 40 required half as much XP again
• from 40 to 50 requires over double the xp I already have (which took two months to accrue including this double xp weekend)

This, of course, illustrates something rather obvious EPIC has been doing (with 1999; 100,000 kills) which is set goals with ridiculous benchmarks in a blatant attempt to keep people playing this game because they certainly can't keep them with quality of play.

Of course, I've been getting host a decent amount lately (haven't heard much chatter on my team about unbearable lag) and boy is it fun. People dying and suddenly I'm a god with the torque bow.
