I've never really played any of the GTA games, but i do recognize their popularity. I've only tried one of the PSP ones for a few minutes on a friend's console.

It seemed alright.... but never enough to justify purchasing a console to play it, for me. Now here's one on a console i own for a change, the Nintendo DS, and it's getting some great reviews(as well).I'll admit that i had some really low expectations for this one, but wouldnt mind giving the franchize an honest shot.

Any of you guys try it out ? or plan on buying it ?

Metacritic: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

Post your impressions here.

I've never played GTA, until now. It was the overhead view the reason I gave it a try… was it a pseudo 3D and I will pass. I haven't read any reviews but I wouldn't hesitate to say is worth a buy. It is damn funny. And looks great.

Here's the intro and first 5 minutes for those who are interested...

I'm kinda impressed by what they've pulled off on the DS..... and it surprisingly looks better technically than any Nintendo game on the DS. Artistically, it looks unique as well. Music sounds good too.

Apparently it makes some great and unique use of the touchscreens as well. I might just have to pick it up and give the franchise a shot.

Finally picked up this title cause i was going to be in transit for 6 hours. Im really impressed from what i've seen so far.

PROS:
-it isnt a watered down console port, or a console game 'wannabe' (going from what i've seen of the console versions)
-it seems primarily designed for portable play. the sensitivity of controls, precision, difficulty are really well balanced imo.
-presentation is off the hook imo. the world fits together really well.... artistically and technically.
-The use of the touch screen is so well done that it's implementation within the game seems better than most first party Nintendo titles (Nintendogs probably being the only exception).
- The developers really outdid themselves with the visuals. the 3D meets 2D look just looks great on the system.
-the beats and sounds are well done

CONS:
-there's no voice acting.... obviously due to the memory constraint. That being said the comic book style of the cut scenes almost makes it seem like a real comic book
-the interface is kinda busy, with a lot of stuff on both screens.

This is probably the first third party title on the DS that qualifies as a AAA third party title to me (not because of the brand, but the implementation). I've never actually played a GTA game before this, so i cannot compare it to any of them. Either way, this is a really good game.

Cheers
