Lately, I've been thinking about the days of the old PS1 and Dreamcast, and the amazing games they had. I'm not saying that today's games are bad, but it was more of the balance of a good game/story with now-average graphics, and how even 10 years later I want to play Crash Bandicoot 2, try to do Zelda OOT in a day, spend some time playing FF VII or X again, play Soul Calibur (I still have my DC).
Does anyone else go back and play old games?

All the time, just last year I bought Super Metroid for SNES, I had the ROM, but I wanted the pure experience.
Me and my buddy have been playing NBA Jam on the Genesis quite a bit lately, fun game. There are so many games I'll never play, a good deal of them are on the PS1, since I never owned a PS system it might be cool to pick up a mint one on eBay and check out the games.
If you liked Crash Bandicoot, and OoT I suggest the original Banjo Kazooie for N64. I never owned it, but it was good enough for me to rent for weeks on end.

I boot up my SNES all the time, Zelda LTTP and super metroid are my favorite games of all time, i've also been known to play some N64 games.
But truthfully the most "nostalgic" gaming i do is a PS2 game NHL Hitz 2002 my friends and I have logged countless multiplayer hours in this game.

i do love the old games, i have a NES in my living room, but it doesnt get played, mainly cause i dont go in there, but me and some online buddies played MOH:AA for years after it game out, until BF:2 landed and we have played that from then to now, nothing has managed to knock it off, COD4 gave it a good kicking, but in the end BF2 came back, at left for dead is doing ok, but BF2 is still been played the most

I got a Dreamcast for free just so that I could play Soul Calibur.
Boyfriend and I have my Acer HTPC hooked up to the big screen, and we play N64 roms on it. It's pretty badass.

And that's why I've kept my PS1, got an emulator for my Mac, kept an old Windows box around for the older games, and even purchased a few classics on my Wii. Its unfortunate I lost my power cable for my Genesis though. And I can't even remember where my NES is.

I'll add my own list of games. (*) Denotes when I actually owned the system/game, otherwise it was rented/played at friend's houses. The only system on the list that I bought when it came out was the N64. For Mac, Riven and the Escape Velocity series were also purchased at or near launch time. I played Doom 2 the day it was released at a friend's house, scary times. The SNES was bought heavily used around 1996, after the PS1 was out for a year or so (I think). I now have a NES, with lots of games but it's not mine, in fact this reminds me I have to give that back to it's owner one of these days.
PS1
Destruction Derby 2
Twisted Metal
FF VII
Crash Bandicoot
N64*
Top Gear Rally*
Zelda OoT*
Banjo Kazooie
Mario 64
Starfox 64
007 Goldeneye*
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
Mario Party 2
SNES*
Super Mario World*
Stunt Race FX* (kinda crappy game, but I still like it)
Star Fox
Super Metroid* (all time favorite game, holds up extremely well, best platformer ever IMO)
Zelda: LttP*
Phalanx*
Mario Kart*
NES
Contra
Zelda
TMNT 2&3 (the first TMNT is a terrible, terrible game)
Double Dragon
Mario 2 (my favorite Mario, mostly because it's weird as hell and makes no sense)
Double Dragon
Metroid (hardest f**king game ever)
Bubble Bobble
Burger Time
PC/Mac
Myst
Riven*
Commander Keen
Duke Nukem (original platformer game was actually pretty good)
Hexen
Rise of the Triad
Escape Velocity* (all of them, awesome series)
Doom 1&2 (duh)
System Shock 2 was made in 99, just about as new as some N64 titles, only recently played it, but the fact remains it's one of the best FPS ever made. Quite hard too.

A sad indictment of my sloth, but my restored, dedicated gaming PowerBook sits unused because the bother of setting up the 360 controller every time I want to play is too much to bear.
Lately, my urges have me wanting to play Mutant League Football and Dynasty Warriors 3.

Ha, I remember Mutant League Football.
I'm still sore, as no doubt you are, that the new improved Goldeneye 007 will forever be stuck in DLC limbo.

Funny that two generations of consoles is all it took for me to abandon Nintendo for good. Christ, over 2/3 of all the games I've ever played have been on Nintendo systems. Before the Xbox all I ever owned were Nintendo systems and games.

Two of my favorite three games of all time are from the N64, which I thought (and still do) was a laughable system.

i was nintendo through and though, well as much as i could be for my age, played the NES and SNES before i was really a wear of what gaming was, then had the N64, GameCube (personally believe to be such an under rated console, let down by the lack of imagination by Nintendo and their inability to sign with decent games publishers) and then the Wii which i loved at first.... but i now have a xbox 360 sat where it once stood

I was also a Nintendo fanboy for the longest time, i bought every system and every decent/good game. They were like apple for me back then. I thought i would never leave the world of mario but then a little game came along onto the xbox called Halo and although i loved the game and played at all my friends houses it took the 2003 release of GTA III to get me converted and from then on I was all about the xbox.

My old roommate had a GC and I beat Metroid Prime one summer, that game is fantastic, I'd actually buy a used GC just to play it again.

Does anybody think this topic could be sort of premonitory?, with that OnLive thing time will come when you don't longer have any physical game, be it cartridges, dvds, blu-ray discs… I don't like having to rely on the internet for such a thing.

Onlive looks amazing, we really should have a thread on it at some point, see peoples reactions, but imo it could be pretty epic, i watched the keynote speech and the Q&A and was surprised no one asked about this being rolled out in other countries

I think every generation feels this way.
On the other hand, games from the good old days (90's), tended to be more like games, and less like big Hollywood productions.
