Have you owned more than one console during a generation? (Page 2)

I wasn't invalidating your poll, just pointing out why i cannot pick an answer at the moment....
i have never owned and i do not own multiple consoles. I am *considering* a second console as well.

Of course, because there's nothing substantial to complain about there.

There's nothing to consider. It's a yes or no question. Do you own multiple consoles this gen? No. If that changes tomorrow feel free to return to the thread and note it, but as of right now it doesn't matter.

Last gen: PS2 and a Dreamcast. PS2 I got on the cheap from an ex, although the HDLoader thing doesn't work for it anymore, so I have to actually swap DVDs now. Dreamcast was free from a Starbucks coworker, and I own exactly one game for it.
This gen: 360 and Wii. Wii's been getting some more playtime with the advent of Boy and a Blob, and we've got Rock Band I and II and GH III and World Tour for it. 360 is being used more as a DVD player than a console at the moment, mostly because I'm too busy playing Runes of Magic to spend any time with my consoles.

I added my none/none entry just to offset the self-selection of the poll. Sorry if I intrude. I only buy general purpose computers. and GPS's. I look over the shoulder of relatives playing, but my brain isn't wired for twitch games.

Yeah, that's happened a few times, although I've never gotten two brand new consoles at the same time:
Got a Super Nintendo, then got a Genesis probably two years after
Got a GameCube (yes, my family is a Nintendo fanboy family for the most part), then got a PS2 a number of years later
Got a Wii, then got a PS3 perhaps a bit less than a year later

Why in the name of all that is holy would you have not one but two Virtual Boys?

Well i've quasi made up my mind for now (ball is in Sony's court).....
I've got a Wii and it'll be my only console for now.
I was hoping to get a PS3 but decided against it for now because:
-region coding on BluRay. I travel a lot and im not about to tie myself to one region.
-The price differential between Australia and the U.S.(hardware, software and movies) make it almost stupid to purchase a PS3 here in Oz.
-Still no backwards compatibility (or at least the games i want from the PS2 library on the PS3).
Cheers

You might want to check the movies because even though it has region coding a most studios don't use it. Most of the movies ARE region free even current ones.

Nothing can be done there. Thats a currency issue not a Sony issue.

Will never happen. Your best bet from Sony is downloadable PS2 games or them rewriting 'enhanced' versions, ala God of War Collection.
Your best bet is to look for a 20/60GB 1st gen, or a 40/80GB system. Not a slim.

Hmm.. didnt know about the region free bluray movie. will have to look into it. is the PS3 region free for DVDs ? cause ive got quite a collection.
Regarding the price differential..... it's a currency issue sure, and a difference of 5-10% is understandable, but not the current levels of 33%-100%...for example, in Australia(including tax):
PS3 = USD$452 (AUD$499)
PS3/XB360 gamess = USD$99(AUD$110)
new Blu-ray Movies are = USD$35(AUD$40)
When you consider the lifespan of a device like this, and the fact that one will end up buying an average of 5 games, it adds up to quite a difference, which i for one am not willing to pay for the exact same product. If it is a currency issue, maybe Sony Australia should adjust pricing accordingly.
And as far as PS2 compatibility, i might have made a mistake communicating my requirement, what i want are some games from the PS2 library playable on the PS3 (disc/download/whatever).
I'll wait

You can always import games. This also has the added benefit of bypassing Australia's awful game censorship.

Games are not region locked. Blu-ray movies are more of a case by case basis.

Correct. Another note that if you are a big Japanese import guy Japan and the US are the same region now for Blu-ray movies, also.

Am I the only person who had a 32X for the Genesis, or the only person who will admit it?
I think getting the Saturn was more embarrassing, and people admitted that.
Goddamn Virtua Fighter...
It looked so good.

Yes
I'm not a fan of add-ons within a console generation (i'm not a fan of WiiFit or Wii Motion Plus) because historically such devices have seen limited support, if any...and for obvious reasons(segmenting the audience, installed base, etc).

Couldn't the Wii remote (and entire system, actually) be considered somewhat of a Gamecube add-on?

The graphics and most notably, the sound, were inferior to the SNES version of Doom. In fact, did you know the 32x actually became a standalone console that never made it to market? Yet another huge blunder for Sega. Also, did you know there were a few games that were Sega CD 32x? God only knows how that worked.

Believe it or not, the wife has whittled down without my saying a word.
Wife: "Doesn't everyone else play XBox?"
Me: "Yep. Family, friends, Internet contacts, everyone."
Wife: "I wish you just had all three consoles. You could've had them all right now if you hadn't sold them all. You probably would've actually saved money"
Me: "Well, I don't really want a Wii again."
Wife: "I know you want an XBox. I saw that zombie game advertised on Hulu; that game actually looks like something I'd like to watch you play."
Me: "Left 4 Dead 2?"
Wife: "That's the one! I wish you could get that one."
Me: "Well..."
Wife: "I know, I know..."
I'm holding off on MW2 until this matter is discussed further.

Level doesn't matter, there's no skill-based matchmaking system in MW2 (or the other CoD) so everyone plays with everyone else.

Then you will see me. And I'll often be dead.
(I know it's not rank-based, but there were quite a few add-ons that came from past performances (CoD4), weren't there? Or am I just remembering wrong?)
