Maybe you just suck at it.

Obviously you've never played Deus Ex. It's easily the best game.... even better than GTAIII, which was awesome.

Dude. In Deus Ex, you got to choose HOW your character interacted with other people. You could say aggressive things, respectful things, ask questions, etc. You could also go about completing an objective many ways... from hacking the computer terminals/turrets/security systems, to breaking through side windows, to picking locks, to assaulting guards full on, to sneaking around and staying in the shadows. It was UNSURPASSED, and still is. I've never seen a game that gives you so much "freedom" in the story before. You could build your character into a badass gun toting commando, or a fast, stealthy assassin. You could be an expert hacker, you could modify your weapons with lasers, scopes, silencers, and you could choose different endings.

HalfLife had NONE of this. NONE.

Half Life was a great FPS, added tons to the genre. Half Life 2 added physics etc. (which was huge)

but Deus Ex was one of the few FPS-RPG games. The depth is ridiculous. I'm playing it currently and it still holds up in terms of gameplay, graphics and story. It's one of the few games where you wonder "I wonder if the game will break if I do x" and it never does.

all IMHO, btw

I found a way to trick it once. I was in some apartment in China town of some rich lady (I think, it's been a while, and after I killed off all the security, I smashed out a window and saw a balcony across the street about 4 floors down. I made sure I was full of health, and jumped for it. I landed. It hurt a lot, but I landed. Then I picked the lock into another apartment, and found a bunch of weird stuff. Then I was trapped, and if I jumped out I'd die. I had to reload a previous saved game. Turns out that was part of the map that you get to LATER in the game.

I was watching a video series of a guy who only upgrades his lifting and jumping stats and beats the game with no weapons.

I spent night after night playing Deus Ex on my Mac, while my buddy at work played on his PC. We'd spend the next day talking about where we were in the game, how we defeated certain aspects of it, and the great part was, that I could defeat a section one way, and he could defeat it a different way. It was great fun. For me, best game ever.

Does Deus Ex run on OS X? Something tells me it doesn't but I don't know why....

The game was only ported to 'classic' so you'll need a Mac that still supports that.
