Went to the Apple store to pick up Bioshock. Sold out, but did see that The Force Unleashed: Ultimate Sith Edition was now out for Mac. Grabbed it.

Minimum system requirements include 2.4 GHz Intel processor and over 25Gigs of hard drive space! My MacBook is only 2 GHz, but it might still play. I'll let you all know. There's also a notice that Intel IGPs are not supported, though 256 Gigs of VRAM is enough.

2.4 GHz minimum and 2.6 GHz recommended systems are stupidly steep for a game ported from the consoles. And what possible improvement from 200 MHz bring to push from minimum to recommended? WTF!?

I'll let you all know how it plays (or if it even installs). Otherwise, I'll wait for my next hardware update.

2.6Ghz excludes most of the early (667-800Mhz FSB/DDR2) Core 2 Duo Macs. They're recommending Penryn and newer.

I haven't installed yet. The reviews of this game are murderous, and that's just on the PC. "Slapdash console port" comes up a few times, and the utter lack of video preference adjustment. I guess I'm burned myself with this impulse buy. Haven't opened it yet, so I may return it. Decisions, decisions.

So the game installs and plays on my MacBook. It plays well at 800x600 with High Detail, but 1280x800 without High Detail made the game slow down. And I do mean slow down: when the game overloads the system, it doesn't drop frames but rather makes game time go slower. Bizarrely, that makes it easier rather than harder to play, unlike a FPS game.

So far it's fun. Feels a bit like a button-masher, but the force powers allow you to minimize that if you want.

And the game is really pretty with some crazy physics. On the Vader level, the environment around me kept collapsing when I wasn't expecting it to. I don't think it makes the combat more fun, but the surprise of wooden bridges waving up and down from a force push made me smile.

Reminds me of Neverwinter Nights 2. They wrote the game for XBox, then backported it to Windows. The game still stutters on a dual quad-core PC with SLI 512MB video cards and 16GBs of RAM.
