I have this game called Battlefield 1942 with CDs, but it only works for PCs. I have seen some online mac patches, which leads me to believe that there is a way to make it work for a mac. How would I go about this?

It sounds like you own the PC version. If the CD does not contain a Mac version, you would need to purchase it. I assume this is it - Amazon.com: Battlefield 1942: PC: Video Games

edit: depending on this game's requirements and your Mac, you could run it via Boot Camp or in a virtual machine using software like Parallels, VMware Fusion or VirtualBox.
