Apple has bought companies and cancelled Windows software, for instance with Logic. But buying Bungie was really the nastiest thing Microsoft could do, taking the best Mac game studio away from a platform suffering for games. It just proves that Microsoft's bluster about supporting the Mac platform was just a self-serving lie.
The fact that Microsoft denied Windows versions for Gears of War 2 and the Halo sequels proves that Microsoft will screw Windows users just as hard as Mac users just to make a buck.

Logic for Windows would have been cancelled any way - Emagic was going under.

Do you think Bungie's good enough to move $2,000 hardware?
I can only love you so much if you're not as hot in the sack as Final Cut.

Things like that are going to happen when you're trying to establish yourself in the console business.
I don't see any other 1st parties putting their stuff on PC, either.

If you didn't love it, don't complain about it.

Shortly after the x-box came out I was given one. I returned it. I refuse to own an xbox or any MS gaming whatever all because they bought Bungie. My login name comes from my Marathon handle.

Yeah but I wonder how they would have dealt with Halo. Would it be Mac only? Cuz if it was, its success would not have been as guaranteed.
The other option would have been to have Halo on both Windows and Mac OS, but that would mean Apple would be catering to hardcore PC overclocker types, which doesn't seem likely.

It would have failed. MS made it the centerpiece of their console entry. They banked on Halo. I don't see Apple giving bungie the same kind of budget.
From the sounds of the Ars article, Jobs' interest was rooted in thwarting MS. He passed on bungie once before.

I don't think he expected MS to buy Bungie, but rather another game company would buy it.
Does anyone know how much Halo development actually cost Microsoft? Besides the buyout money, I mean.
I think Apple should buy a game developer: Epic Games.
