Looking at the categories and nominees, the video game industry just doesn't have the depth to support everything that's going on here. So many games seem nominated purely because they needed someone to take up a line. Perfect example:

Best Driving Game
Blur
ModNation Racers
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
Split/Second
Does anyone but Modnation deserve a spot here? Blur was a commercial and critical failure, split/second was a commercial failure, and the jury is still out on Hot Pursuit, but it's not a critical success thus far.

---

Of course, on the other hand, i seem to have reached a level of pretension on judging games that matches my standards for movies. That or games the past year are really shitty compared to two years ago (Or, I guess, good games are in genres that don't interest me, i.e., New vegas).

So I could post the results, but suffice it to say it was the usual farce. Maybe usual isn't the correct word, as all the video game blogs seem to be lighting up about how bad they were in a way I don't remember happening before.
