Think that I've run into the rage-inducing-hit-marker-WTF-why-me problems that others have complained about. Full-on shots, sometimes hit-markers sometimes none, and the guy kills you like nothing happened. I've noticed that this is usually on 3 or 2 bar connections for me.

I'm getting terrible hosts, and they come in spurts. I can play an hour without a single problem, but the next day might present five terrible connections in a row.
And yes, weekends seem to be the worst.

Not to sure, as I use quickdraw on my sniping classes, but the L118 has the fastest scoping IMO. The actual power difference of the sniper rifles is negligible, as connection seems to dictate their stopping power on its own. I'm a recent convert to the AS50, though extended mags is a must.

My Type 95 class is 2 attachments, ACOG and Rapid Fire, under the right conditions it is nigh unstoppable.

If I'm moving around with my sniper class I've got my silenced MP9 out anyways.

You can put assassin in the first slot.

There's no rhyme or reason to it. Wish they displayed player count, because I swear its worse when more people are on, which makes no sense.

Or is it based on some judgement it passes on the connection to their servers when you log in (Which remains unchanged no matter where the host resides)?
I've never knowingly met a proctologist, but he isn't 'inspiring' is he.
I'm sure that this lag issue has been gone over time and time again. What exactly is consistent? In CoD4 I suffered when there weren't many players in std tdm for example. In MW2 you could have a good game in a game type with not many players. HC HQ for example. You were more than likely able to get a better game with more players in the game type, but it wasn't like CoD4 (for me) where you HAD to have loads of players to get a good game. Blops changed all that. When there were lots of players in std tdm, I had terrible games. I cannot remember an exception. If I played Barebones or HC games I had better games. Is this lag compensation? Blops was out when I was in 2 different houses, one with an excellent connection and one with so-so connection. I always felt that Blops netcode had serious faults, and I'm sure that I could dig up the posts.
MW3 doesn't seem as frustrating as Blops was in terms of network issues, but then I've probably spent more time out of std tdm than in it.
The best population to analyse this are the people who haven't moved, changed ISP, play with the same group : Dakar, Sek etc, but then how do you know if some twat/s that moved in down the road isn't downloading Terabytes of films - which could impact your internet experience (at least thats what some European ISPs are claiming).
On the whole, I'm all for removing lag compensation.

HC is notorious for promoting a more deep-seated use of camping than standard tdm.

PLaying CoD4 this summer, the connections varied from slightly better to clearly worse than Black Ops. This was with 12,000 people total to pull from however (Less in TDM).
MW2 didn't wow me either, but it seemed more straightforward. The bars were more often indicative of the situation.

Actually, most of what I saw is shit you have to accept (and saw in MW2).
Getting killed behind a wall? That's client-side hit detection. How do you know when you've done the same to a person? The game respects your bullets because on your screen he didn't make it behind the wall. To me, this should even out in the end.
The other big example was the sniper bullet that took half a second to register. That is lag. Standard lag. The only real complaint you can make is that person shouldn't be placed in a lobby where he is lagging that bad. But that's matchmaking.

Wonder if the turning off theatre solution is valid. I'm going to try it.

Theater is a placebo. Considering its recording consists of client side rather than Host, it strikes me as pointless.

Weekend Notes
• Arkaden is definitely our new Jungle. The outside area is just beautiful to hold.
• Finally starting to see some rage quits. Twice as satisfying when they had host. Last night we backed up a strong performance on Arkaden with harder domination on Bootleg.
• On Bakaara, there's a two story building I camp in the majority of the time. This thing is the new garage from Estate. Someone could make mad bank guarding me full time in there. I killed the hell out of some team last night on it. After I died I didn't return for a while, which ended up being the wise play as they latched onto that thing like a life-preserver. Sorry, I went 6-1 guarding that room. Not gonna give you a single free kill pointlessly trying to rest it back (I will however, snipe you guys out of it).
• The great thing about riot shields is they promote team work for both the attacker and the attacked. Unfortunately for the guy trying to attack last night, he neglected to factor in the stairway that left his head exposed to numerous shotgun blasts. (This video should come later in the week, and is a two-parter).
• I can't say I'm as good as fatty, but my sniping in this game has become very, very solid.
• The MP5 is killing me. Literally. At this point it's so bad that weapon leveling has slowed down, meaning if its not done when I hit 80 I'm going to wait til its done to Prestige, because I am not using it ever again.
• Having worked all of two days last week I got a lot of time in. Like 24 hours worth. Which would explain why I'm in the last 25 of Prestige 2.
• So much microphone rage last night. /sogood.gif

Forgot to mention, I finished the campaign. I'm not sure what was gripping – the first time my character was on the ground, dazed and had to get up, or the 7th time my character was on the ground, dazed and has to get up.

In response to the several posts about lag compensation.
I suppose it makes sense, as since Black Ops a Fatty host hasn't meant shit, but that might be due to the fact my host is simply to good, and the poorer connections on the other side get compensation up the yin-yang.
I went 30-3 yesterday on mission, and at the time I would have bet good money I had host, but now I'm not so sure. At any rate, something changed drastically after MW2, and would appear to be some sort of extreme overcompensation to allow players in far away areas and with less-than-stellar connections to compete with those of us with fat pipes.
I just speedtest.net'd my connection, first to Boston, then Pennsylvania, then NY (where Comcast switching area is). Ping was sub-21ms for NY, but around 50 for the others. Downstream is a consistent 24Mbps everywhere, but upstream is a paltry 3.5Mbps...something that used to be around 8Mbps in the past. Seems my upstream speed has decreased over the years, also something that probably makes my host suck.

It seemed like every chapter started that way. My favorite level was "Scorched Earth" were you start off on the ground dazed and almost deaf then flash back 20 minutes prior so you can sit through the same dazed/confused cut scene later on. MW3's campaign was by far the weakest in the series.

What upstream are you supposed to get? In the grand scheme I don't think 3.5 is bad by any stretch, but I could be wrong.

I dunno. I revisited MW2s campaign this summer and there were quite a few missions I didn't want to bother with. Luckily there was only a small section that reminded me of the hell that was Favela. Had the same rooftop escape feel to it, too.

Placing this here for later reference.

What is the "Gold Clan Tag?"
If your Clan is Level 10 or greater, your clan is eligible to use a Gold Clan tag which can not be duplicated by any other clan. Make your mark!
Well, this explains why I couldn't get "Zero" as a clan tag. The thought is nice, but that's awful.

I think we are paying for 16/8, and in the past the upstream was always at or near 8Mbps, perhaps they restructured the plans recently though, haven't payed much attention.

Rereading the Black Ops thread, we set our score record (700 pts) on Nov. 30th. I can't believe we achieved that so early in the Black Ops lifetime. Not sure if we ever got lower (600? 400?) afterwards.

I hate the MP5 so much. I'm getting worse with it by the minute. I have a feeling I'll be hanging out at 80 for a while finishing my Mastery of it.

Level 5 1st Prestige, and I have 9 class slots. Is there really any reason to Prestige again?
Apart from the prestige of it of course.

Pretty sure this it was Dakar that gave me the idea to stop at level 9 in MW2 since you couldn't get any more class slots. For me this is the most important part of prestiging. If like one of my clan members, you like using bolt-action snipers only, you don't really need more class slots - so why prestige? I like a good choice of classes, depending on how I feel and what game-type I want to play. It usually breaks down to classes like these :
Run and gun
Kill aircraft
Completely silent std
Completely silent HC
sniper for HC
sniper for non-hc
Arsehole class - in MW2 it was noob tube OMA, but I haven't seen a setup that copies this yet in MW3
Something with AK-47
S&D
Barebones
etc.

Better late than never, figured I'd post up my primary class (which I run about 70% of the time)
I'm having a hard time using any other assault rife than the type95, I prefer burst fire (M16 in MW2). Possibly could switch to the ACR at some point.
Also, thank you COD:Elite for keeping my Black Ops emblem on the profile.

Stating somewhat of the obvious, but I can somewhat nail down one of the huge differences in how maps play in this game by the fcat that when I'm sniping I can't afford to take the time to line-up headshots most of the time (a necessity oftentimes in MW2), not will you often run into some one who is still (and if they are, sniping like you, most of the time, they are looking at you).
Sucks. (I miss Estate)

Aside from what seems to be a mystery word that got dropped in the latter part, I don't care.
"I can't afford to take the time to line-up headshots most of the time"
Sorry I didn't feel like taking the time to come up with alternative way of saying I'm under temporal constraints in the majority of sniping situations.

The only time that I line up for the express purpose of a headshot, is when I sneak up behind someone. 99.9% of headshots that I've ever gotten are pure luck.

Well, what the hell have Premium service members gotten that the free haven't? Aside from having a full minute of render time and using my extra online storage, nothing. Once clan operations go live (better be by early next week at the latest) then we can talk.
Also, I'd like some DLC announcements. I'd be pumped for something to be coming out the first month.

BTW, as far as Elite Premium is concerned, I really don't care. It came free with Hardened and the DLC comes free with it. The longer videos is the only feature I was looking forward to (though I'll appreciate the double xp if we ever earn it).

I thought clan operations were LIVE already. I was gonna mention that last night. I'll have to check again on my Mac, but I thought I saw something from my iPad on operations.
Unless it was weekly or daily challenges that I saw?

No freaking clue. Elite is a mess so far, but I'm hoping it either starts making sense or is adjusted.

One my friends managed to "accept" my clan invite and post on the clan page that he wasn't showing up on the roster. It's a ****ing mystery. I checked to see who was left on the invite list and all it listed was some dude I never heard of that I deleted. I checked later and the guy who accepted and someone else were back on the list of people waiting to accept invites. Amazing shit. Guess they should have done more with the Black Ops beta.

This is hilarious for two reasons.
First, I've heard this referred to as Killcamception, where you see yourself killing the person in the killcam where the person kills you.
Second it pits an asshole running akimbo FMGs versus a bitch Dropshotting thermal Quickscoper. Talk about the bottom of the barrel. If only Akimbo guy had jumped in the first part.
---
In rebalancing news, akimbo FMGs are supposed to get a nerf soon.
