Hello all,

Has anyone else had issues with downloading updates using Airport Extreme? After a lot of time speaking to Xbox tech support, opening 6 ports etc... I'm forced to unplug Xbox from Airport, and plug direct into the modem. Anyone have a fix?

Thanks

btw - downloading as in doing updates. Problem is that once an update comes out you cannot sign on and use Xbox live until the update is downloaded and installed.

I've been able to download a map, though it took about 2 hours to download 790meg, and multiple retries as it would time out repeatedly.

Have you set up port forwarding? I'd give your xbox an IP by MAC reservation, then forward the ports to it from this MS document. Network ports used by Xbox LIVE

When you're using the Airport Extreme, are you connecting to it via WiFi or ethernet cable?
If you haven't, I'd want to try out an ethernet cable hooked up to the Airport Extreme.

Also, does your modem have wifi or ethernet ports?

Yes, since the wif wasn't cooperating I'm plugged in directly to the Airport. What I'm told by xbox people is that the Airport doesn't play nicely with their servers. If I could get a splitter so I could both plug into the modem, and have another plugging directly into the airport the problem would be solved. Can this be done?

I'll check out that link soon - thanks

If your modem is just a modem (make + model please), you'd need another router. Said router would probably come with wifi and make the Airport Extreme redundant.
