Did you put it into the same folder as the full install?

Soooo, just for the hell of it, how does this game play under OS 10.1? Definately interested in getting my hands on a copy, but if it's like UT is under X, then i'll wait some more.

It's most impressive! Take a look for yourselves.
http://www.barefeats.com/pm02.html
From barefeats:
"Graeme Devine was named "Chief Designer" at Id Software in March of 1999. One of his missions has been to modify the code in Quake 3 Arena to take advantage of Power Mac distinctives such as the Velocity Engine, Multiple Processors, and OS X. I don't know about you but I've been so depressed when I see those Wintel machines attaining frame rates in the stratosphere.
Well, this week I took delivery of three key ingredients: a Power Macintosh G4/800MP, OS X 10.1, and Quake 3 1.30. Let's see how successful Graeme has been:''
"Excuse me a moment while I catch my breath...
Wow!
The latest version of Quake 3 Arena screams when you feed it the latest, bestest hardware and software from Apple. It also helps to tweak Quake settings (just like the Windows guys do).
If you are a game freak, you gotta get 10.1 and you gotta get a GeForce3 and you gotta get a dual G4 of some sort. (See graphs below.)
I love OS X 10.1! I love my new G4/800MP. I love my Geforce3! I love Quake 3 Arena 1.30! Thank you, Graeme and Id Software! Thank you Steve and Apple. God bless America!"

You are talking about Quake 3 right, Thats whats in the topic, but the first message reads quake 2. My advice for Quake 3 is that the OSX version only runs with a full install. You can either buy the Mac or PC version and intall all the files, and use the cocoa app. For directions on using the PC version look for the macnn news article that said the Mac version was discontinued. Good Luck!

I can use the PC version?? Man! How could I miss this?? I was sooo close to order the full mac version, just to have something to play with under X.1. God!
There was an error when I tried to find the news article..
In short text, how does I install and use the PeeeeCeee version? Just cut and paste the installed files, and run the port??? (I have VPC) I guess there will be a readme files with the port, but I am asking anyway..
I gonna download the X port right away!
How the heck could I miss this??
Just love the Quake series..

Yeah, isn't it beautiful? I bought the Linux Tin Box edition, and thanks to iD Software...I just downloaded the latest point release and played it on my Mac! Don't forget to look in stores now for "Quake 3 Gold". It includes Quake 3 and Team Arena together and even Mac installers right on the cd.

I have the gold edition (QIIIA +Team Arena) and it Rocks in 10.1.
You have to download the OS X patch from Id software. I get higher
FPS in os x than in 9.2.1. It' truly excellent. At the moment you can get
it for $ 20 at Best Buy,

So, I went out and bought the Gold edition, installed it, and installed the 10.1 patch in the proper directory on my G4. Then, when I tried to actually run Quake3.app, it asked me to "select my retail installation". I was a bit baffled, because I was already in the right directory...
...but I selected the directory again. And it asked me the same thing, all over again! I could do this as many times as I wanted, and *nothing* would happen. I reinstalled, and it *still* wouldn't work!
What gives? Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Thanks!

Did you select 'quake3' or 'baseq3'? I forget which one it is you are supposed to select, but it's in the Readme...try selecting the other one and see if that works.

Blizzard, thanks.
Well, there was no Readme included with the patch.
I tried selecting the baseq directory as well. That didn't help either.

Got installed my copy of (PC) Quake 3 arena. I just copied the q3config.cfg and pak0.pk3 into its proper directories, and it worked as a charm right away. Very nice!
Only one thing. I can't get to the console. It seems like there is something about the key settings. Going to look at it later. Any ideas?
And one more thing. Timedemo.. I forgot how I did it. I guess there is almost a year since the last time I played Quake 3. Heh..
And now.. The final thing.. Took a short look in some of the game resellers here in Norway, and it seems like none of them have the Gold version.. yet.. A bit strange or what? :o

I've been able to get the PC version working on my First Rev. TiBook but I've been having some wierd problems with OS X. Everytime I quit Quake 3 Arena, and try to start up again, my screen does the theater dim 3 times and then flashed "Unable to initialize OpenGL"... it won't work again until i restart...
anybody have the same problem?

This is perhaps a bit dumb question, but:
Is there other games where you can use the PC version in X.1?
I know Quake 1 and 3 works fine, but how about UT with X port?

well, the return to wolfenstein mp test is one such game in which the pc files can be used along with a mac excecutable (it's based on q3 i know, but still). i'm sure the release version of rtw will work in a similar way to this also.
