How do games perform in VPC 3 or 4(even though there is no support for added graphics cards in 4)? Also, has anyone tried counter strike on VPC since it gets high framerates?

I didn't get very good anything on any 3d games, but the 2d stuff was near non-emulation speed (ie rollercoaster tycoon, 3d ultra pinball 3, ceasar 3 etc)

well, i hate to tell you, but games suck under vpc.
I have an indigo ibook, g3 366 with 192mb ram and an 8mb ati rage 128 video card.
Vpc wil only let you use a max of 2 or 4mb ram, and its like 2d ram only - in fact looking in the vpc settings it emulates as an s3 trio 64 2-4mb card, which is a really crappy old pc card.
I tried running baldurs gate 2 via virtual pc, and it was unplayable.
The problem with virtual pc, is that no matter how powerful you rmac is, it will only emulate a pc at around 233mmx with crumby video. SO in other words, if it ran at all, cs would run like a dog under vpc.
If you are a mac owner, stick with mac games, or buy a pc. In fact for the price of virtual pc you could buy yourself a playstation 2 and have a wonderful gaming platform.
And by the way, quake 3 arena runs very well on my mac- just yesterday i was competing quite well with a a group of high end pc owners - so its nothing to do with my machine.
Take it easy

If you're looking to run PC games via VPC stick with version 3 and pick yourself up a used Voodoo 3 card. VPC v2 and v3 support Voodoo acceleration directly and can return reasonable performance if you're willing to set it up right.
The problem with all of the posts in this thread so far is that they are judging VPC on its ability to emulate PC games w/out any direct 3D acceleration. Viewed in this light, of course it's going to suck.
On the other hand, i have heard many first hand accounts of people running Half Life at decent framerates with even a Voodoo 2 card and VPC 3. So it is possible, you just need to evaluate your needs.
If you want the best PC gaming performance, you'll need to pony up the $$$ and run natively on Wintel hardware.
If you want the best PC gaming performance out of an existing PowerMac, you'll need to snag a copy of VPC 3 and set it on Voodoo3 hardware.
