We've all heard that Q3 is soon going to support altivec, and many are drooling at the prospect.

How likely is it that we will see altivec support on other games that are coming to mac? Anyone have any idea how easy/difficult it is to add altivec support to a game?

It's unlikely for most games until we see a G4 iMac.

The question is not about compatability its about profit in the Mac community.

It's also about getting a compiler that will actually complile Altivec code. You guys hear about Graeme's problems with Q3? The coding is pretty much all done, but now we're waiting for an update for Codewarrior that will actually do the Altivec code correctly. Personally, I just want to see UT upgraded. . .

Doesn't CodeWarrior 6 do Altivec?
I'm sure it does... or is it fairly rough or something?
I know you can build a new project as an 'Altivec' thing...

the sooner we get games just naturally being written for altivec, etc... the sooner we can show the mac can game very well. i hate to say it since the g3 is such a great processor... but i think that with osX coming, it is time for apple to migrate away from the g3.

There's someone in my head but its not me...

I don't know what exactly the deal is with Codewarrior and Altivec code. All I know is that the Altivec enhanced Q3 is delayed because of a lack of functionality with Codewarrior's Altivec capabilities.

There's a bug in Codewarrior that prevents it from compiling
proper Altivec coding. Until this bug isn't fixed, no Q3A Altivec.
Sorry.
